In 2021, income tax personal allowance was frozen at £12,570. If aligned with inflation, it would now be £16,070. A minimum wage earner in England will pay extra £980 in income tax & NIC in 2026-27. Govt can easily increase personal allowance by £3000. leftfootforward.org/2026/09/…

🚨BREAKING Andy Burnham has just announced that he will put forward plans for taking our water into public control in his 10-year plan later this year Let us be clear, public control is not public ownership. We already have public control of water now - it's called regulation. The solution to the crisis we face in our water system is public ownership. Thames Water households cannot wait for the government's 10-year plan. Thames Water is insolvent now. Andy Burnham must take Thames Water into public hands now.

The America vulture capitalists now running Thames Water are trumpeting Liz Barber, former CEO of Yorkshire Water, as the new saviour of the company. Would that be the same Liz Barber who put up customer's bills by 41% and then refused to give up her own bonus? Of course it would. Liz Barber was paid £1.32 million in her final year as CEO of Yorkshire Water. itv.com/news/calendar/2024-1…

I see Southern Water still repeating the same old lie, that it's OK to dump sewage "during periods of heavy rainfall". Funny that, courts are very clear, that's illegal, sewage should only ever be dumped during "exceptional situations", "exceptional weather". In the UK there's nothing "exceptional", about heavy rain. Is there Southern Water? @EBNreporter eastbournereporter.co.uk/eas…

Hundreds of people are still without water in Kent, although supplies have been restored to more than 7,000 properties in the area. Some residents have been without running water since last Monday. South East Water has apologised for the disruption, blaming hot weather, high demand and burst pipes.

Going from bad to worse... A matter of weeks ago the stretch of the River Thames at Ham and Kingston designated as a bathing water was reporting E coli levels 6 times over the legal limit, now blue-green algae has appeared. Short version, stay the hell out of the river.
Warning - blue-green algae detected ⚠️ The Environment Agency has confirmed the presence of potentially toxic blue-green algae in the River Thames in and around the designated bathing water site at Ham and Kingston.

A prelude of what is to come. Just you wait until this drought breaks and that inevitable deluge of rain comes and with it million of tons of sh*t getting dumped into our rivers and onto our beaches.
It rained for an hour or so overnight, the first rain we've seen in quite some time. Yet it was enough for @SouthernWater to release sewage in Hythe, thus rendering their beach unsafe to swim today.
