ADHD news that never reached you: the part of the brain that turns a repeated task into a habit is smaller in people with ADHD. That came out of the biggest MRI study of ADHD ever done, 3,242 brains. Almost nothing goes on autopilot. Brushing your teeth costs the same as a spreadsheet, and that is why you are done by 2pm doing what other people do half asleep. 1/3

Every time your phone tells you where you are, it is using a mathematical model of the shape of the Earth. A Black woman from rural Virginia spent decades building that model by hand, and almost nobody knew her name until she was in her eighties. Gladys West. She grew up in a sharecropping family in Dinwiddie County and understood early that the alternatives were the tobacco fields or the factory. She finished top of her high school class, which came with a scholarship, and took it. Her work was satellite geodesy: taking the raw data coming down from orbit and using it to compute, correction by correction, the true irregular shape of the Earth. Not a sphere. Not even a neat ellipsoid. A lumpy thing with gravitational highs and lows. That model is the foundation the Global Positioning System sits on. You cannot locate a point on a surface until you know precisely what the surface is. She did this for decades, largely unremarked, and retired in 1998. She was recognised in 2018, when her sorority mentioned her biography at a function and someone realised what was in it. The Air Force inducted her into its Space and Missile Pioneers Hall of Fame. She earned a PhD in her seventies.

Case in point: Russia pre-WWI had the highest economic growth rate of any country in history. You can guess how much that meant to people on the streets once bread became unaffordable.
There is a reason that unemployment causes discontent, but inflation topples governments.

When ADHD people say “I didn’t do anything today” what they actually mean is: - I answered 13 texts - Cleaned the bathroom - Cried - Made 2 meals - Reorganized one shelf - Battled internal shame But didn’t finish The Invisible Task™ So it all feels like failure.

Because people are tired of 8 episodes per season and having to wait nearly two years to see what happens next. Netflix is why networks went from 22 episodes a season to 18, and now 15, 13, 10 and 7. Copying what they think works for one doesn’t work for all. Additionally, binge viewing was supposed to be a luxury. Now it’s become an epidemic. Weekly viewing is what started primetime TV and will always be the superior method.

Chief Justice John Roberts Shunned by His Neighbors as Backlash Over Pro-Fascist, Cruel, and Sadistic Trump Rulings Grows Chief Justice John Roberts is being frozen out on the Maine island where he has summered for more than 20 years. Neighbors who once shared lobster dinners with him now keep their distance, skip gatherings, or show up to protest his rulings. The break tracks the court's 2022 barbaric decision overturning Roe v. Wade and Roberts' 2024 opinion granting Donald Trump the same kind of broad immunity from prosecution that other authoritarian tyrants enjoy. Kayakers hold signs a few hundred yards from his house. "Roberts Benched the Constitution" appears on local roads. On Monhegan Island, people who recognized him chanted that he should be ashamed. Longtime friends have pulled back. Members of a local cigar club skipped this summer's gatherings so they would not have to sit with Roberts and his wife. "It's harder for him to feel comfortable approaching people — and vice versa," said Mary Anne Mason, a former law partner. His security detail has grown. He used to linger on the dock after church; on protest days he stays away. Wendy Schlotterbeck, a longtime neighbor, said she wanted to ask him directly: "Do you realize what your decisions are doing to my family and my community?" A recent Gallup poll put the fascist-friendly Roberts Supreme Court's approval at a record low of 33% — which is still 33% higher than it should be.

Shaquille O'Neal looked his six kids dead in the eye and told them they were not touching a single cent of his $400 million empire unless they earned two college degrees first. He made it clear: "We ain't rich. I'm rich." The best part is that he actually enforces it. When his son Myles wanted to be a DJ, Shaq made him present a full business model before funding a single piece of equipment. Today, Myles holds a Las Vegas residency. His son Shareef is working a real job for his dad at Reebok. His oldest daughter Taahirah graduated Magna Cum Laude and went straight into corporate communications. And just this past May, his son Shaqir graduated from college and immediately announced he was going back for his second degree just to meet his father's baseline standard. We live in a culture where parents bend over backward to give their kids everything they never had, but in the process, they strip away all their drive and character. Shaq realized that handing his children everything would ultimately teach them absolutely nothing about the value of hard work. Fame and wealth didn't stop him from being a traditional father who demands accountability. How many other parents actually have the backbone to raise their kids with this kind of standard today?

Dopamine is motivation liquid. You tell brain "move", dopamine kick brain and brain move But ADHD no have enough dopamine Adhd ask brain to move. Dopamine too small to kick brain so no move Brain lazy. Brain like to sleep instead ADHD beg, cry, scream. Brain still no move

JavaScript has been through this before. In 2011, Google set out to replace JavaScript with Dart, arguing JavaScript couldn't be fixed by evolving it. Then ES2015 shipped. It's time to do that again.

I used to want a software engineering job. That dream for me is dying. I wanted to learn from other engineers that were better for me. I wanted to debug production issues and be hailed as the hero. I wanted to hold my head up with pride knowing I spent years learning a language that most people didn’t understand. But all this is gone now. Everyone uses AI and tells each other to “just use AI”. This is not the career I want. This is not what I sacrificed years for. This is not my dream anymore.

One of the most important programming languages of the future may be C. Not C++. Not Python. Not Rust. In the era of AI-generated software, we no longer need the runtime cost of languages built for human readability. When AI writes the code, C becomes king again. Here is why: 🧵

Wait wait wait — so apparently being labeled "gifted" as a kid and coasting through school on pure raw pattern recognition, only for your brain to completely hit a brick wall the second life required actual executive function that’s actually a high-IQ ADHD thing?? Yes.

c++ has far more production-grade, high-performance AI libraries than rust. rust isn’t even a contender in that space yet. c++ has well-tested scientific computing libraries that have existed for 20+ years and gone through countless iterations of improvement.
honest question @elonmusk since this is a new codebase: why not Rust? is this that the compiler stack for GPUs is much more mature/better for C/C++?
