Thrilled to share this #lipidtime story in @JCellBiol where, led by Shiying Huang and in collaboration with Tamas Balla’s lab, we uncover plasticity in phospholipid metabolism to preserve plasma membrane identity and integrity in the face of disease-relevant perturbations!
How does the plasma #membrane preserve its #lipid identity under stress? The Baskin and Balla labs report a homeostatic circuit linking PI4P, phosphatidylserine, RhoB, and phospholipase D-driven phosphatidic acid. hubs.la/Q04mQjrC0 @basktastic @weillinstitute @CornellChem

How do plant organs stay smooth—or become wrinkled? 🌱 Our paper in @CurrentBiology shows how coordinated growth direction and mechanical properties across cell layers determine whether Arabidopsis sepals remain smooth or buckle. cell.com/current-biology/ful…

What if tissues have a lipidomic architecture of their own? We mapped the mouse brain lipidome and revealed distinct “lipizones”. They are not simply a reflection of cell identity but capture anatomy and cellular processes. A new way to think about how lipids organize tissues.
#lipidtime: It's a lipid universe. Today in Nature we publish the Lipid Brain Atlas, the first map of membrane lipid composition across the entire mouse brain, a layer of organisation that cell-type and transcript maps had left out. #lipidomics #neuroscience #BrainAtlas

Why is glutathione, rather than cysteine, the major cellular thiol? Our new work by @ToshiNakamura51 suggests unlike other amino acids, excess cysteine is intrinsically toxic to mammalian cells via mitochondrial iron accumulation. @RockefellerUniv nature.com/articles/s42255-0…

If you are preparing a presentation, by far the most effective, concrete tip is to ensure each slide title is a complete sentence. Subject, verb, object. That ensures each slide has 1. at least one point, 2. no more than one point—i.e., each slide has exactly one point! :)

‼️P2A sometimes does not work‼️
Our new co-first-author paper is out in Nucleic Acids Research! We unexpectedly found that nascent-chain sequences located well upstream of P2A—even outside the ribosomal exit tunnel—can modulate peptide-bond skipping efficiency. 1/n academic.oup.com/nar/article…
