Good writing and any improvement in this area will go a long way for patients! BUT its central diagnosis (that the science is largely ready and development is now the bottleneck) fits oncology far better than neurodegeneration.🧠 We have not solved the upstream science in Alzheimer's or Parkinson's. We have few (I'd argue, no) therapies for their root causes. These diseases unfold for years or decades before before they become clinically detectable, often through very noisy readouts. So even if you had a potential treatment at hand, it could take a long, looong time before you'd be able to detect an improvement. Faster Ph1 trials are not the (primary) solution for fixing this fundamentally broken feedback loop. Instead, we'd need better experimental systems, biomarkers and longitudinal data that lets us learn much faster from the bench to patients. Case in point:
Excellent and important piece on clinical trials from @RuxandraTeslo: nytimes.com/2026/09/04/opini…

For years, critics have labeled Capitol Hill a "gerontocracy." The AP News Congressional Retirements Tracker shows a massive wave of lawmakers heading for the exits this election cycle, while underscoring a broader trend: Congress has steadily aged over the last century. While dozens of members are not seeking reelection to their current seats, many aren't stepping away from public life entirely, opting instead to pursue governorships or Senate seats. As a new generation of leaders steps up, we’ll be watching to see how the demographic landscape of Congress evolves. Nonetheless, the timing and opportunity for aging biology and longevity biotechnology have never been more ripe. At A4LI, we continue to champion this vision by advocating for policies that accelerate next-generation disease-modifying therapies. By pairing longer lifespans with vibrant healthspans, we ensure everyone has the energy to pursue what they love and the opportunity to pivot careers at any stage of life. What role should public policy play in extending healthy human lifespan? Our Founder, @dullunlivin, recently joined the @LongevityTech UNLOCKED podcast to discuss why advancing longevity science requires more than scientific breakthroughs. It also requires policies that help bring those breakthroughs to the people who need them. The conversation explores the growing momentum behind longevity policy, the challenges that remain, and why now is the time to rethink how governments approach healthy aging. 🎥 You can watch the full interview here: piped.video/watch?v=LCl0oQ5k…

🧠 Longevity Fact of the Week 12.4 years. That's the average gap between lifespan and healthspan in the United States. In other words, the average American spends more than 12 years living with disease or disability before the end of life. While we have made remarkable progress in helping people live longer, the next challenge is helping people stay healthier for longer. At A4LI, we have made it our mission to advance policies that accelerate the development of therapies targeting the biology of aging, with the goal of extending not just lifespan, but healthspan as well. 📖 Learn more about the research behind the healthspan gap here: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/article…

Our H-SPAN Summit DC is just around the corner. This year, we’re building on last year’s conversation about cross-agency alignment in funding and regulatory frameworks for longevity. We are thrilled to close Day 2 of the Summit with a landmark session: “Building the Framework: Policy Levers for Longevity Innovation.” For the first time, senior administration leaders and Members of Congress will join in a singular forum to discuss current federal initiatives and legislative levers that set out to make healthy longevity a national priority and achieve a true "longevity dividend." Featured speakers for this policy-focused second day include: •Dr. Mehmet Oz (Tentative), Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) •Lowell M. Zeta, Acting Chief of Staff and Deputy Commissioner for Strategic Initiatives, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) •Dr. Alicia Jackson, Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) •Congressman Kevin Mullin (CA-14), Representative of the Bay Area Longevity Biotech Ecosystem •Congressman Jim McGovern (MA-2), Ranking Member of the House Rules Committee and Champion for Nutrition and Healthy Aging Policy •Congressman Paul Tonko (NY-20), Co-chair of the Congressional Longevity Science Caucus

A positive signal that the longevity ecosystem is gaining the critical visibility it needs from state lawmakers. Excited to get started!
What an unforgettable day! Yesterday marked a monumental win for the geroscience field and the longevity industry. California Senate Resolution 104 passed the floor with a unanimous 35-0 vote! Joining the presentation on the Senate floor were Dylan Livingston (Founder and CEO of A4LI), Sonia Arrison (Chair of the A4LI Board), Dr. Joon Yun, Remy Gross, and Sean Curran. We are beyond grateful to @SenJoshBecker and Senator Akilah Weber Pierson for introducing this historic resolution. The Alliance for Longevity Initiatives is excited to get to work and collaborate with LeadingAGE California, California Life Sciences, and the California Chronic Care Coalition on forward-thinking policies that promote aging biology research and public-private collaboration. By integrating longevity strategies into California's public health framework, SR-104 will optimize healthspans while driving significant long-term cost savings for the state!

HB 1735 has passed the New Hampshire Senate. The bill was amended during the legislative process, but its passage reflects growing recognition that patients and innovators deserve greater flexibility when pursuing promising longevity therapies. "The final bill is more limited than we originally hoped for, but it's encouraging to see states like New Hampshire continue engaging with these issues,” said Dylan V. Livingston, Founder and CEO of @theA4LI. “The reality is that patients are looking for more options, and policymakers across the country are increasingly willing to have that conversation." We are grateful to the many New Hampshire leaders who championed HB 1735, including Governor @KellyAyotte and @NHSpeaker Sherman Packard. We also extend our thanks to the stakeholders, advocates, and volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to supporting the legislation and advancing the conversation around patient access and medical innovation.

This resolution is a positive signal that the longevity ecosystem in CA is gaining critical visibility it needs!
On June 8th, A4LI and a strong representation of academic and biotechnology leaders in longevity will join CA Senator Josh Becker (@SenJoshBecker) as he presents Senate Resolution 104. SR 104 advocates for a fundamental shift in how California approaches public health and fiscal planning regarding the state's aging population. The resolution encourages state health and aging departments to integrate geroscience into public health programming while fostering collaboration among academia, health plans, and biotechnology firms to pilot innovative longevity medicines and gerotherapeutics. This is an incredible milestone for California, the leading state for investment, talent, and innovation in the longevity science field! I’m thrilled to announce my new podcast, Longevity Science with Matt Kaeberlein. Episode 1 is now live and takes a deep dive into the story of dinitrophenol (DNP) — an experimental weight loss drug linked to hundreds of deaths and a cautionary reminder of what can happen when enthusiasm for new therapies gets ahead of the science. Episode 2 drops Friday and features a Longevity Roundtable with @BKennedy_aging and @docmranney . We discuss proactive healthcare, rapamycin, peptides, epigenetic reprogramming, biological age testing, and where the field of longevity medicine may be headed next. My goal with this channel is simple: thoughtful, evidence-based conversations that separate signal from noise in the rapidly evolving world of longevity science. I hope you’ll check it out — and subscribe on YouTube, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. YouTube: piped.video/@mkaeberlein Spotify: open.spotify.com/show/7DRRH5…
