we're basically at war, and they've found an effective meta: use censorship and mute their social media (meta defeated) use lawfare to arrest undesirables use influencers to normalize violence (hassan) use DDOS violence (antifa, assassins) to kill if necessary: kirk, thompson

interpretability might be the most important scientific problem in the world right now, as I don't think we can solve alignment if we don't know what we're building. I think I have good news about it. I co-authored early work in mechanistic interpretability at OpenAI and came away pessimistic, because neural networks appeared to fold into arbitrary tangled knots. years later, I started openai's first large-scale automated interpretability project, finding about 2% of neurons legible with the primitive tools we had with modern agentic tools and a much closer look, the picture looks totally different. the vast majority in models up to trillions of parameters are legible, and their circuits beautiful. many famous examples of tangled neurons turned out to be misunderstood. The roadblocks I expected mostly aren't there. I now think ambitious interpretability will be solved by the time we need it most, and possibly quite soon, as automated scientists keep improving. it may be a bitter lesson for interpretability: the simple thing, at absurd scale, works already-clean.goodfire.com/

Vice President JD Vance breaks down the data: "If you are working as an H-1B visa in the United States of America, you’re earning $20,000 less than an American citizen hired in the same position. If you were brought in by one of these foreign outsourcing firms, you’re making $48,000 less than an American citizen in a similar position. So I’m sure that everybody here understands the game that is being played. You bring in indentured servants from outside the country, you lay off American workers and, if you’re a corporation, you make a ton of money by under cutting the wages of American workers, replacing them with people who frankly shouldn’t be in the United States of America to begin with."

For all of human history, it was the older generation’s responsibility to set their kids, and eventually grandchildren up better than themselves. In exchange, life would reward them with grandchildren and to become grandparents, and be surrounded by loved ones as they grew older. Becoming a parent was a lifetime commitment. Getting to know your grandchildren was the greatest measurement of success and achievement. But then something changed horribly with the Boomer generation. They convinced themselves their responsibilities to their kids and younger generations ended the moment their kids turned 18. No concern for seeing their kids struggle, their grandkids, or any kind of legacy. No aging with grace or being surrounded by loved ones. Just their iPhones, their hordes of money they refuse to spend on their families while they’re alive, and another pointless cruise to nowhere.

While it lacks the "sex appeal" of nons rioting & burning down beautiful new schools, the biggest news in France has been the financial headlines. France is bankrupt, with annual interest on the national debt being 3X greater than the real growth in GDP. No way out. 1/

A great summary of the Cornell case. She’s 100% right here and includes all of the evidence from 2024 and the new lawsuit.

From the NYT - it ruined her reputation publicly - she tried to deny it happened - in the early days she owned what happened entirely as something crazy she chose to do - eventually she sees someone say she was raped, not a whore, while scrolling online - “aha, a way out” - starts increasingly implying she was a victim to test out the public reaction - realizes it’s more sympathetic than “I’m sexually adventurous” and realizes it’s a path to salvaging what’s left of her reputation - torn because she still likes the guy and doesn’t want to throw him under the bus to save herself - eventually her relationship with the guy she was protecting deteriorates anyways and exactly the same day that happens she goes and tries to tell police it was rape The real predators here were the feminists and sex positivity activists who convinced an entire generation of young women that having risky sexually adventurous sex was empowering and heroic But at the end of the day, she made choices then tried to turn those choices around on everyone else when the heat came down
This is probably what happened: - her friends found out what happened - they clearly were disgusted by it - she increasingly used language to distance herself from the act to save her reputation, made it sound less consensual - this led to ingroup pressure to report it to “keep this from happening to other girls” - the police asked basic questions like “did you agree to it? did you ask them to stop? did anyone force you to take drugs or have sex” - under the most basic questioning her case fell apart because no one in her own circle asked her any of these because all the programming is to “believe women”
