Memo to Europeans. Glad you're having a good time. In Boston, across the South, you're seeing the good stuff.
Boston is at heart a British city with an Irish overlay. Probably why Scots just naturally feel at home. They called this place New England because they wanted to build a better England, and they did, dispensing with that wretched class system, letting the common man off the leash, to make of himself what he could. Taking it all in a new direction, securing liberty.
Boston from the start was a wellspring of innovation, and remains so. No accident the American Revolution began here. It doesn't happen without Boston.
The US does in fact have all that shite they warned you about. Boston is an outlier among blue cities because Boston insisted on enforcing the law when others stopped doing so.
Go have a look at what they did to LA, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis. Watch your back in Philly and New York. Among the rednecks, as Freddy famously found out down South, you'll be fine. You'll have a good time.
