Banks don't 'lend' out deposits. When someone takes out a 'loan', the bank simply creates brand new money (bank credit) out of thin air and then charges interest on it. This is how all money is created, as debt. No debt =- no money.

By raising interest rates, the Fed essentially increases fiscal stimulus in the form of the interest income channel.

Not a single fiat currency has ever failed solely because it was fiat. Why? Fiat is a ledger, not a commodity. A ledger doesn't "fail" on its own, it fails when the stuff being counted (goods, energy, labour, trust, taxes) disappears or is misallocated.

Then let me pay you in "Stadelmanns" should I require your services in the future... liability extinguished, problem solved. Or would you prefer Venezuelan bolivares or a few billion Weimar marks? I actually have some. Nominal settlement is not the same as preserving real value.

Please stop misleading the public. The Federal deficit is an asset. It’s public savings. And whatever percentage is owned intra government is worth bupkis. So knock it off.

This is hilarious work, MAGA just proved with hard numbers that illegals voting comprises less than 0.015% of all votes and 0.34% of the national margin. Effectively proving 2020 was nowhere close to being “stolen” by illegal votes Can’t make this shit up 😂😂😂

The most interesting part of the red card saga isn't the ruling. It's how differently Americans and Europeans process the idea that they might have been wronged. Europeans are fundamentally different from Americans in one particular way: they expect life to be aggravating and at times unfair. It's just a fact of moving through the world. I joke that in Europe, the customer is always wrong. You didn't read the fine print. The only pharmacy in town is closed every other Tuesday for three hours, and even if the times weren't posted, that's still your problem. Too bad if you want the bill, because the waiter's on his union-mandated half-hour smoke break, and you're just going to have to wait. To quote the great Mark Knopfler: sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. There's something freeing in that. Things are less in your control, so there's less angst in managing your expectations. In America, things couldn't be more different. We simply can't accept a wrong left unrighted. The flight attendant sneezed handing you a drink on your one-hour flight? 15,000 frequent flyer miles. Didn't like your appetizer? A replacement is on the way, and the whole course comes off the bill. There's a reason our interstates are lined with trial lawyer billboards. Europeans have turned complaining into a continental pastime with no expectation that the universe owes them a remedy for their grief. You gripe about the train being late, your friends nod solemnly and everyone goes back to their apéro. In America, we launch a full-blown investigation of the train system, sue the government (and its contractors) that allowed for the tardiness and hold a Congressional hearing on the state of national infrastructure. So to an objective observer, the red card shouldn't have happened, and VAR was a travesty. To Americans, our star player shouldn't be unfairly banned from a match we couldn't afford to lose for a card he so obviously didn't deserve. Who cares that FIFA used a little-used reversal to fix it. Who cares that other people are mad about it. We. Were. Wronged. It was unjust. It must be corrected. We would accept nothing less. Europeans waxing poetic about the sanctity of the game are, of course, talking about a governing body whose last tournament host was decided via confirmed cash bribes — one that imposed dress codes on women, shrugged off widespread allegations of modern slavery and reconfigured the entire tournament calendar to suit the host country. Which is exactly the point. If you've made peace with all of that, at least enough to watch the tournament four years later, a probationary suspension isn't actually a scandal. Maybe that's the real divide. Over millennia, Europeans have made peace with being the bug. Americans have never once considered it, and apparently, we're not about to start now.

Elementary accounting shows the US government creates new money when it spends beyond tax revenue. And the new money finances the bonds, not vice versa. It’s a myth that the private sector finances the spending. It’s not where the national debt and interest payments come from.
US national debt is not like household or business debt. Good so far. But here’s where mainstream economics begins to go off the rails: the national debt does not come from borrowing. Ask yourself: why would the US government borrow the money it creates? Makes no sense.

The most f*cked up aspect of this is the "DoorDash grandma" t-shirt she's wearing, and the implications of this: I checked and this is a pre-organized PR stunt between DoorDash and the White House (they boast about it on their website: about.doordash.com/en-us/new…). The lady - Sharon Simmons, "a grandmother of ten" who has "completed more than 14,000 deliveries" - isn't even from DC, they brought her over from Arkansas as a prop for this. Think about just how uniquely rotten things need to be in order for this to happen. She is literally a grandmother relying on gig work because she can't afford healthcare for her husband's stage-3 cancer. She doesn't even get paid a living wage and needs to rely on tips. And as an "independent contractor," she gets no benefits, no healthcare, no retirement. Which means she is an almost perfect illustration of the failure of the American social contract on almost every level: healthcare, labor rights, retirement, wages, etc. Any decent human being looking at her story - let alone policymakers - should feel only one thing: shame. Yet DoorDash and the White House looked at this woman and saw a photo op. They flew her from Arkansas, branded her "DoorDash grandma" and used her as a mascot for a tax tweak - no tax on tips - that wouldn't even begin to cover her husband's chemo sessions. Watching the actual video of her "delivery" to Trump (pbs.org/newshour/politics/wa…) is almost unreal. Trump opens up by saying, smiling at the camera, "who says it looks staged? It doesn't." They immediately proceed to do a joint press conference to a bunch of journalists who were conveniently standing right there. None of the questions that follow during the next 15 minutes are related to Simmons' situation who just stands there. Journalists, the President, and cameras all obsessing over culture wars and the actual war in Iran, while the walking embodiment of the country's deepest structural failures - healthcare, labor, retirement - stands silently in a corporate t-shirt, unmentioned and too uncomfortable to confront.
Sharon Simmons, the DoorDash grandma who was just part of a Trump photo op at the White House, says on Fox News that "no tax on tips" helped her because she couldn't afford her husband's cancer treatments

Some basics. The US Dollar is a tax credit. It is a unit of measure. You can't run out of inches You can't run out of numbers The government can't run out of dollars... unless it purposely, politically chooses to. Thread 1/x
