It makes me sad to know where we’re heading. The only part that makes it less sad is how it ends for these people too.

A sitting United States senator just admitted she wants to use prosecutions to scare young people away from working for President Trump. Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan said it out loud at the University of Chicago on Tuesday, during a live taping of a Vox podcast. "I want to look at these signature cases and not just focus on the president, but on the people who enabled him," she said. "I want young people coming out of school to say, should I go work for the Trump administration?... I want them to be like, Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don't want... I want that deterrence message." This isn't a one-time slip. In a September 30 speech, Slotkin said Democrats should go after Trump officials if they retake Congress, and she compared it to Poland's "Iron Broom" plan for cleaning house after authoritarian rule. She named Kristi Noem, Doug Burgum and Jeanine Pirro, and warned that misusing taxpayer money "can land you a sentence of up to 20 years in prison." Think about what she's saying. She isn't talking about a specific crime someone committed. She's talking about making an example of people so the next generation is too afraid to serve their country under a president they voted for. As a mother, I'd be proud to see my kids serve in government, and nobody should be threatened with prison for taking that job. This is exactly why the midterms matter. Imagine what they'd do with the gavel. See the link to the article in the comments.

This is a serious threat to anyone who does not toe the line that this Senator believes in and a threat to anyone who believes that a diversity of viewpoints strengthens our country. I hope that "young conservatives" and others who find this appalling rise to resist this threat to freedom of thought and speech.

We have got to attack the threat to the middle class in America.

Somewhere between Maoism and Stalinism we find Slotkinism. This is some of the most evil and vile stuff I've ever heard out of an American politician, let alone a US Senator – states gleefully that she wants to publicly punish her political opposition to set an object lesson that will discourage the next generation from participating in their nations governance. Here's the funny part – do Democrats not understand why President Trump made such a monster comeback in 2024. Conservatives, especially the populist conservatives, especially young, populist conservatives are antifragile in their political motivations.

I like this one better.
You’re either going to be getting a 5k check after the midterms or an illegal immigrant will. It’s your choice.

Canada’s first F-35 flew Wednesday from Texas, the first new Canadian-marked fighter in 44 years. Ottawa said little. That same day, Mark Carney told the NYT Canada prepared for U.S. military action. Probably the stupidest day in Canadian politics in 44 years.

When Biden was installed in the White House, he would almost never talk to the press, and when he attempted to - the fake news press would ask him pre-written questions, then he'd read a pre-written answer (that he didn't even write) So spare me pretending these are real journalists.

An understated dynamic regarding the pathetic cuckery from turncoats like David French and Erick Erickson (and many others, including Jonah Goldberg) is that their heel turn was driven more by resentment and a desperate need for secular approval than it was by ideology or political partisanship or any sort of actual concern for the country or its people. Both saw themselves as national thought leaders with huge fame and notoriety and influence. Neither was true, but that fiction was key to their core identities. And then Trump arrived, embarrassed them, and showed them to be powerless and irrelevant. He became president, they faded away, and worst of all: nobody really noticed that they were gone. Trump, and by extension his voters, defrocked them and showed their entire sense of self to be fraudulent. They reacted and lashed out in the same utterly broken and delusional way a transgendered kook responds when being told you can’t change your sex and no you’re not a woman. There is no greater crime in the eyes of a delusional person than to expose the delusion. And no one in politics is better at brutally unmasking people than Donald Trump. Both French and Erickson have always been desperate to be feted as celebrity political figures. Erickson looked in the mirror and saw Rush Limbaugh. French looked in the mirror and saw a president staring back at him. Trump so thoroughly and publicly crushed their dreams and exposed their impotence that they have never forgiven him, or anyone who voted for him and made him president. Twice. And so now their lives revolve entirely around a man they detest to the point where their personal compasses direct them not to a fixed point, but to the opposite direction of wherever Trump or his supporters are headed. Their hatred of him has made them so deranged that their lives are now directed entirely by him, if only by inversion. But they have now finally found their precious, the One True Ring that gives them what they always desires: head pats and retweets from Jake Tapper and the New York Times. There is nothing more intoxicating to the conservative turncoat than Strange New Respect. To the extent they’re even aware of how they’re being used, they don’t care. The high of finally getting patted on the bottom and told they’re special by the same media elite who quietly smirked when Charlie Kirk was killed is too much to resist. And that’s how you end up with Erick Erickson using the same rhetoric and tactics that Antifa uses to target violence against white Christians, and with David French defending perverted sexual deviants twerking on children in libraries as “a blessing of liberty.” Ideology was only ever their vehicle for fame and notoriety, which is why they were so easily able to do a 180 on what they had sworn were their core values. The only core value they ever had was a desire for attention and approval. It’s so obvious in hindsight that you almost have to kick yourself for not seeing it at the time. Once Donald Trump shut down the avenue for any of that fame and positive reinforcement from the Right, they turned right around and begged for it from the Left. Because it was never about ideology or core beliefs. All they ever wanted was attention.

I am once again reminding people to not be fooled by Sen. John Kennedy’s charm. He is an establishment Swamper. Listen to his words carefully here - he says Paxton has to make a case for what he will do to help *the Senate*. Not his voters, the swampy Senate. Then he says “oops we don’t have any money to help Paxton” and that’s Trump’s problem. Bullshit - they made it clear they want Paxton to join the Swamp or they won’t help out his race. Corrupt.
.@SenJkennedy tells me Senate Republicans don't have plans to spend on behalf of Ken Paxton in toss-up TX race: KENNEDY: "There's no sense bubble wrapping it, we've got a race in Texas... [Paxton] is going to have to point out the deficiencies of Mr. Talarico... you can't win an election by saying the other guy's worse than me. Money is an issue," Kennedy said. "We in the Senate don't have the money budgeted for Texas. We need help from the President. The President says he has $850M in his campaign accounts. That's a lot of jack." @SundayBriefFNC
