Words matter: Teams are not families. Teams are teams, families are families. Sport is not a war or a battle. War is war, sport is sport. Ball is not life. Ball is ball, life is life. Let’s speak with great precision. ~ via @dannyhoops

Just remember … for some it is a business
I’m only taking on 30 high school/ juco clients instead of 50 this year. Cuz I’m just too swamped with my NIL Clients. And I appreciate all the people that’s reaching out. But don’t forget I got a recruiting service. Meaning a buisness. The only kids I help for free are Power 5 kids and the only kids getting discounts are former Power 5 players. Every year I was taking 10 kids and getting them off the board for free but damn them parents and family is tooooooo mf ungrateful so that’s over with. I charge $1000 for my service. $500 upfront (high school season) and $500 on the backend (AAU season). If either party don’t agree with how the high school season went then we shake hands and part ways. You might not agree with my work and don’t think you got your money worth. Then walk away. And if I don’t think yall doing part of performing and listening to me. I’m for sure go walk away like Jade. But I got a 95% placement rate. Nobody better at getting kids off the board than me and I’m cheaper than AAU and got better results. So if you good enough you really don’t gotta play AAU. But please respect my time when you call. Instead yall calling me and then get off the phone and call people like “Why Brelove just call me sweating me about my son”. I promise some of yall weird. But if your son or daughter is Class of 2027 and yall not currently talking to no schools 9 out of 10 times yall not ever go talk to nobody. Cause after AAU the college coaches back to the grown ups. And yall kids playing AAU for people that yall never hear from after July. So if you not hearing from coaches you better hire somebody to help you fight for your kid or just start applying to local d3 schools and jucos and go to open gyms and tryouts. Cause unless you 6”6 or you go out and average 30 colleges don’t care about no high school kid. They be cussing me out for even bringing high school kids up. -Jappy Davis Jr

Been highlighting the for profit nature of Prep Hoops even it was acquired by Maple Park Capital Partners in late 2025 prepnetwork.com/2025/10/01/p…
I just dropped a podcast at utahbasketball.net covering the PE takeover of Prep Hoops (this clip obnoxiously close to my face), the class of 2027 surprises, and why hoopers should play multiple sports

Unfortunate that some view youth basketball players as a commodity to monetize
My client went from: • 50 athletes • $8k/month to • 200+ athletes • $16k/month The craziest part? He didn't become a better trainer overnight. He became a better business owner.

Yes, some adults do actively try to monetize youth basketball.
A response I just gave in our Skool community regarding charging higher level players / revenue drivers in coaching business : - the youth academies are definitely where the consistent revenue is! - We’ve found that working with high-level players is absolutely worth it! 2 ways we’ve capitalized like you mentioned: 1. A new stream of Revenue. June was our best month ever in terms of high-level revenue. It’s been a great addition to our already thriving youth academies 2. Credibility / marketing. By showcasing who we work with, we’ve been able to get hundreds of youth players to trust us with their development I would try to start getting high level guys on monthly retainers, and go from there!

Some of the things on this platform are whacky. Next up the hand stand constraint?
We use a 1-leg start constraint for the defense in this game. This creates an advantage for the offense to attack the rim.

True, but it has always been curious to me why similar narratives aren’t said about history class, physics class etc. I those instances it seems ok to say that the goal is to gain a substantive knowledge and skills. Rarely do we impose on those teachers grandiose metrics

It’s the “shooting guns” that’s why 🤡
Illinois didn't get to Indianapolis by accident. Head coach Brad Underwood has invested in four basketball shooting Guns for his players and built drills around the way his team actually plays. 38 to 42% of their shots come from three. That starts in practice. Why not trust the same machine building one of the best offenses in college basketball?

Would enjoy seeing something like this for “journalists” who cover the club basketball scene. So many undisclosed conflicts of interest and other issues.
I asked over 350 college basketball coaches and players to rank journalists based on lack of credibility and poor reputation. Here are the results: 1. Jeff Goodman 2. Rob Dauster 3. Adam Zagoria 4. Zach Braziller 5. Seth Davis 6. Matt Norlander 7. Jeff Borzello 8. Jon Rothstein 9. Joe Tipton 10. Andy Katz 11. Joe Lunardi

Let’s say an AD concludes that a college coach should go but to fire him/her would result in a multi-million buyout. Would it be “smarter” to keep the coach through their contract and then use the “buyout” $ to increase NIL?

There may be some exceptions, but convince me that generally a person who has been an assistant at various schools (even high profile) makes a better head coach hire than a person who has previously and successfully been a head coach at a different level

Many basketball “conversations” on social media are a mile wide but an inch deep in terms of reasoning, rationale, or sophistication
226
Yeah, there is that dynamic …
Of course your club coach is going to tell you how amazing you are, how your HS coach is hating on you and how they can “get you to the next level”. You keep paying them thousands of dollars every year to be on their team…

Serious question. Is someone who has an apparent business model focused on basketball (various camps for approximately $500, subscriptions, paid videos, etc) part of the problem?
Hey Coach, We don’t have a talent problem in youth sports. We have an adult problem. Until we fix that, the kids don’t stand a chance. Here are 5 ways we can improve youth basketball 🧵

Some of the things on basketball twitter are just absurd
When you allow players to travel during a small sided game like this, you might just open the door to movement patterns they've never explored before. Instructions: 1. Offense is trying to score but they cannot dribble. They can travel.  2. Defense is trying to steal, block or force a missed shot.

After observing fall league games - things that are funny: the defense and quality of play; coverage by scouts as if the games are meaningful. Most situations, players are investing 3-4 hours on game nights - time that could be better spent in their local gym or Weightroom.

Because - in part - there are many adults (some club program directors, trainers, journalist “scouts,” recruiting “services” etc) with for profit businesses that market the next level
Why has the measure for the success for HS sports been shifted to getting to the next level? It should be PART of the equation. But seeing too many steps skipped along the way. Make the most of the opportunities in front of you NOW. Live in the present. Prepare for the future.

What % of basketball writers / scouts do you think have undisclosed conflicts of interest which impact who they cover?
229
If true, this is fraud.
