One thing I get tired of hearing is that "both parties are the same." This phrase is usually preceded by "I don't follow politics, but..." If you don't follow politics, how do you know both parties are the same? Now, I am not saying one party is perfect and the other is evil. But that's not even a realistic standard. If a party has to be perfect, then no party will ever meet your standard. The other thing I hear all the time is "What do the Democrats want to do other than stop Trump?" That's just dumb. Stopping Trump is 100% enough. It's like arguing you won't call the fire department because they won't repair the fire damage. But it's also just plain lazy to ask what they are going to do. The Democratic Party (unlike the Republican Party) is not a monolith slavishly licking the boots of one man who has lost whatever sense of reality he once had. And Democrats do have platforms. Generally these are along the lines of restoring the progressive nature of federal tax policy, providing benefits for the poorest citizens, immigration reform that is sensible and not just malicious, ensuring that everyone has access to healthcare, protecting our Constitutional rights, including the right to vote, and providing responsible oversight to the overt corruption of the Trump Administration. You can argue that they aren't nimble enough, that just a return to the norms is insufficient, or that there is too much corporate influence in the Democratic Party, and I would agree with that. But you can't argue that they are "extremists." The side that is extreme is depriving the poor to enable the rich, imprisoning children and using them as hostages to force their parents into denying the human right to seek asylum, assaulting democracy, destroying our alliances, starting wars, committing war crimes, kidnapping foreign leaders, bombing schools in other countries, murdering people on the high seas, selling pardons to drug cartel leaders and human traffickers, and making billions of dollars selling pardons. They are the extremists. So let's stop with this both sides nonsense. The Democrats don't have to be perfect to be monumentally better than party that celebrates treason.
