#Texans Azeez Al-Shaair on being fined by #NFL $11,492 for having name on his eyeblack honoring Hind Rajab, a Palestinian five-year-old girl killed by Israeli military along with her family in Gaza City in January, 2024 by Israel military and Kyrie Irving saying he'll pay the fine: 'It's bigger to me. Is a life worth $11,000? I think it's priceless. An innocent man, an innocent woman, an innocent child losing their life is not right.' 'I don't think everybody knows what it's about. I think that was the point because before that, probably most of you guys might not even know who she was. That's kind of the point. There's a lot that goes on in the world, not just overseas, right here in our own country. Even I did an event two Tuesdays ago for families that were affected by ICE that were either detained or their family members were detained. At that time, I never knew anybody personally who has been detained or anything like that. And then literally this past Tuesday, a friend of mine, literally just sitting there crying in front of me on the phone, come to find out her cousin, who's been there since he was five years old, got detained on the way to a concert and is being deported. Mind you, he has no family, no nothing over there. And that was my first interaction, my first experience with somebody that I personally know. So it's sad to say there's a lot of issues that I speak on that really are just a shed of light because a lot of people don't care nothing about it. We're in our own little matrix. We're blessed to be able to have the comforts of living in the United States and not having to worry about certain things. But there's issues here and all over the world that, you know, we talk about even what happened with him with his job and his family. Those are taxpayer dollars that we're, as Americans, are paying that are being used to bomb innocent men, women, and children. So that's really what that was about. I think it's important for everybody to do that. Not everybody does it, though. Yeah, by me, everybody. I mean you guys just as much as me. Everybody has a platform. Some bigger than others. But I think especially for myself, understanding the platform that I have and also understanding how I got that platform. I got that platform because of what I do on the field. So I always use that as motivation to be better on the field because the only reason why y'all care to talk to me and not whoever else is because of the way I play the game. So I understand that me playing extremely well gives me a bigger platform. With that platform, I'll be questioning, like I told you guys before, on what I did with it. When I got it, that's the stuff I have to ask you to, to God. So for me, To sit there and say that, oh man, the money, whatever, that wasn't relevant to me. I think it's just important to do that as human beings because we all have our own issues and things that we're going through, which can get so lost in your own problems that you can't have compassion for other people in the world.,' You and Kyrie are fighting for the same cause. Do y'all have a relationship? 'Yeah, we've talked multiple times, especially in the last week. A lot of that stuff is just him supporting me and me supporting him and having to turn his back. I think the biggest thing is me and him align on the cause, which is humanity. We both care about humanity, regardless of skin color, race, anything like that. That's what I think, more than anything, when it comes to me and him, that we align on, just not being afraid to do that. I think some people are like, well, it's pretty black and white. We don't have to have all the answers to everything to know that. An innocent man, an innocent woman, an innocent child losing their life is not right. I don't need anybody to gaslight me into saying that. Well, you've got to ask. I just know that's not right, whether they're here in America or somewhere halfway across the world'

Law enforcers already have authority to charge companies and their CEOs for creating and releasing dangerous, unvetted, or defective products. We shouldn’t let discussions about new legal regimes distract from the fact that there’s no AI exemption from laws already on the books — a point @FTC emphasized repeatedly during my tenure. 1. There is an extensive set of laws that govern dangerous and defective products. For example, releasing unvetted AI models or agents can violate consumer protection laws. Shipping flawed AI tools without implementing adequate measures to detect and stop rogue or defective AI agents can be an “unfair or deceptive” act or practice under the FTC Act (and analogous state laws). And some state AGs are already exploring holding AI firms and their CEOs criminally liable when their models participate in criminal activity. 2. Existing laws also prohibit “unfair methods of competition.” This covers instances where AI firms appropriate the competitively sensitive information of their customers, including through tracking their use of various tools. It can also cover instances where firms pursue dangerous behavior, aware that doing so may compel rivals to do the same. As the Supreme Court has noted: “A method of competition which casts upon one's competitors the burden of the loss of business unless they will descend to a practice which they are under a powerful moral compulsion not to adopt, even though it is not criminal, was thought to involve the kind of unfairness at which the [unfair methods of competition] statute was aimed." 3. The highly concentrated and interconnected structure of these markets could be creating major risks and conflicts of interest. We had started investigating these partnerships and cross-investments across the stack (and released a preliminarily overview of some findings: ftc.gov/news-events/news/pre…). Both federal and state enforcers should be scrutinizing these opaque relationships and inter-dependencies. We are already seeing how these relationships could undermine accountability. For example, OpenAI could face liability given the Hugging Face incident, but Hugging Face being bought up by Nvidia means that we’re unlikely to see it file a lawsuit over this — given Nvidia’s strong incentive to see OpenAI continue full speed ahead. 4. As AI tools dramatically change the landscape of cybersecurity risks and hacks, all businesses should be doubling down on having core security protections in place. Firms that fail to invest in adequate data security measures or fix known vulnerabilities can also be breaking the law. A recent analysis showed that around 1/3 of Fortune 100 companies do not even have a way to notify them about security issues. During my @FTC tenure, we sued firms for poor data security practices and held CEOs liable when they were personally responsible. this.weekinsecurity.com/doze… ftc.gov/news-events/news/pre… 5. As policymakers consider new legal regimes, we should be looking to lessons from prior efforts to govern major sectors, such as banking and other networks, platforms, and utilities. Tools like structural separations, nondiscrimination, and supervision could be key, and there’s a rich history of what works and what doesn’t. But we can and must pursue any new efforts alongside enforcing existing laws.

8 Senate Democrats just voted to advance one of Trump's judicial nominees. Which raises the question: WTF? Dick Durbin John Fetterman Ruben Gallego Maggie Hassan Martin Heinrich Jack Reed Jeanne Shaheen Sheldon Whitehouse

my interview with mallory mcmorrow is up now. i am grateful she came on the show despite the scheduling drama, and likely knowing we’d have disagreements. youtu.be/QIcvn62pCQw
i was really looking forward to interviewing mallory mcmorrow (candidate for US senate) today. her team asked if i’d have her on my show, but they cancelled after i said we’d cover “healthcare and foreign policy” and offered no possibility of rescheduling. :(

It's time to elect candidates willing to do the most good (not just the least harm). Your government should start treating your basic needs as human rights, guaranteed to every American. Don't you agree?

Only one chance in this lifetime… Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him. I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.

So everyone is clear: Trump falsely claims FISA 702 is simply foreign collection. He leaves out that the government “incidentally” collects huge volumes of Americans’ communications under this program and then searches them without a warrant. That’s why Section 702 is the most dangerous part of FISA for ordinary Americans. Title I at least requires individualized court orders—even if those were abused against him. A “clean” extension skips any meaningful safeguards for our rights. Tell your representative to vote NO on reauthorizing FISA 702 without a warrant requirement.
