The maximum penalty for an individual is meant to be $82,500 - every year they don’t lodge the mandatory form. Tens of thousands of owners have failed to comply over the course of a decade. The government should be issuing BILLIONS in fines to these foreign rule breakers, not letting them off with a slap on the wrist. For years, government has tried to fob off One Nation’s call to ban foreign ownership of Australian homes. The government has lied to Australians - claiming the numbers are low and the compliance regime is “tough”. This One Nation investigation proves the government can’t be trusted on foreign ownership. One Nation’s policy is simple: Ban all foreign purchases of all Australian homes and give current foreign owners 3 years to sell their home back to an Australian.
