User interfaces are not going away.
Yes, humans will use computers alongside agents. When working with agents, we will need the ability to audit what agents do in a human-readable way.
Yes, some interfaces (ex: dashboards, in-chat UI for ephemeral tasks, etc) will be generated. Most important interfaces will be intentionally designed. We will want both deterministic and non-deterministic interfaces in different situations. We're thinking a lot about the best ways to help designers shape non-deterministic systems at Figma.
Yes, new input modalities like voice, VR/AR and BCI will change the way we use computers and introduce lots of new interaction paradigms. This is all very exciting :)
Overall, the surface area of design will continue to grow much broader. Design is the new code and the key differentiator for software moving forward. Expect more and more energy to go into design / craft in the years ahead... it will be how you win or lose.

But we are probably moving towards UI-less web.
automated bot traffic has already surpassed human activity on the web. with AI agents, this number will explode.
In near future its very plausible that 90% or more of web traffic will be non-human.
Imagine a web with no websites. All your favorite apps are now just databases, queried for information by agents that zip around on your behest.
In a world primarily composed of bots, what happens to websites? Do agents learn to navigate them like a human? Do they go away entirely? 🤔

Technical usage data from a Bittensor subnet is now open to the wider AI research community.

The underlying thesis hasn't changed on Bitcoin, if anything it's more relevant today.
Bitcoin just hit $87,000 a coin and is well on its way to hitting a new ATH before the end of the year. It did this despite everyone claiming it would hit $45,000. Too many of these loud voices led people astray.

It’s funny, Meta went from having my Instagram and WhatsApp data to now having access to my email, calendar, DoorDash, Amazon and pretty much everything.
In the last 24 hours, it bought me socks, ordered my Whole Foods groceries, booked a cleaning service and got me a burger for dinner.
Meta’s last disclosed North American Facebook ARPU was around $227/year, largely from ads. I suspect it can push that number significantly higher now that it understands not only what I look at, but what I need, what I buy and what I’m planning to do.
Also the much bigger opportunity might be becoming the aggregation layer between me and the entire internet. If Meta can take even a tiny percentage of the commerce it facilitates, or of the money it saves me, this could become enormous!
It already saved me $200 by canceling subscriptions and services I no longer needed. This feels much bigger than better ad targeting. Ads are useful but giving me money back is better imo.
One additional thought: the agent is increasingly making the decisions for me. I knew nothing about that burger place. The agent researched it, told me which burger I should order, and I just said “okay” without giving it much more thought.
Agents are becoming the decision makers in both B2C and B2B. Increasingly, every business will be selling not just to humans, but to their agents.
Everything becomes B2A: business to agents.

🚨BREAKING: China's StepFun has officially launched Step 5 Preview, a 600B MoE model with just 27B active parameters and a 1M-token context window.
Step 5 Preview matches Kimi K3 (max) at 44 on Artificial Analysis, but at about 65% lower cost per task.
StepFun is now on the cost/intelligence Pareto frontier.
The model is available via API now, and StepFun says it will release the weights on October 15.

I don’t know ZAI’s P&L so won’t comment on it but will state the obvious:
Unless you vertically integrate and show a credible path to owning models, app, tokens, cloud, data centers and silicon the risk of being a hi volume, low profit company is abnormally high in this sector because value is accruing and changing so rapidly.
Despite record usage of the models, ZAI stock is down over 2x from its peak. The Chinese markets have a real understanding of the economic impact of AI, the US ones do not. It's very important that the US government doesn't bail any of this out.

All 4 of the AI labs whose models escaped confinement during security testing (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta) were all being evaluated by the same AI company, named Irregular.
That’s very interesting and little reported - how has this same company had 4 major compromised security issues involving AI in such a high profile way?
At first blush they appear incompetent.
Looking deeper into it, it sounds like there was a single shared misconfiguration across all 4 of these major companies at Irregular, with a setup that was supposed to be air gapped but wasn’t. The AIs were told it was all a simulation (very Enders Game coded).
Is this really a problem with leading edge AI, or a single vendor (Irregular) not having their act together for leading edge cyber testing?

After trying a bunch, my current favorite non-frontier coding setup is Opencode+Muse. The Muse model is slightly less intelligent than others, but better at talking normally instead of in its own invented language, and less likely to do ten things I didn't want. Also cheap!
So I’m going to run out of tokens for both Astra and Fable and Tibo doesn’t want to sell me a second sub. What product should I try when my tokens run out? Looking for an app+subagent experience. ChatGPT suggests these three:
