🚨If there is ONE thing you read about Maine’s property taxes before this election, let it be this: For nearly 20 years, Maine had a law limiting how quickly towns could increase their property tax levies. And if a town wanted to exceed that limit, it had to follow a separate approval process. In 2024, the Mills-Pingree Administration repealed that law. The statewide municipal property tax levy limit was eliminated, along with the procedures for exceeding it. At the time, Hannah Pingree was serving as head of Mills’ policy office. As Governor, this is my plan to deliver property tax relief: 1. RAISE THE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION TO $100,000. Expand property-tax relief for all Mainers, including seniors, veterans, first-time homebuyers and working families (Worth noting, the Mills-Pingree Administration testified against increasing the Homestead Exemption). 2. ROLL BACK UNFUNDED STATE MANDATES. Review and eliminate state requirements that impose unnecessary costs on our towns, schools and local property taxpayers. 3. LOWER MUNICIPAL OVERHEAD. Pursue lower energy costs and address the crime and addiction-related expenses affecting local governments and law enforcement. 4. REFORM REVENUE SHARING. Change the way Augusta distributes funding to municipalities to encourage lower property tax rates and fiscal discipline, not higher taxes and more spending. Trump has not made all of your hopes and dreams come true in two years’ time. You think he has done nothing, even though he has had profound victory after profound victory in areas like immigration and downsizing the federal government. You have your pet issue that has not been satisfied to the extent you demand, so you want to “Stay home and send them a message.” Yes the GOP sucks. It’s a heinous mess of self-interest and failed status quo maintenance. But the only thing worse is the Democrat Party. We are running against LITERAL COMMUNISTS who want to abolish the Senate, pack the Supreme Court, add two new deep blue states, open the borders to unlimited immigration and succumb to creeping Sharia and jihad in order to literally destroy the nation.
