It sounds like Trump needs pointers on how to be likeable.
Trump is going to Gracie Mansion tomorrow to sit down with the guy he spent last year calling a communist lunatic.
Zohran Mamdani’s job approval in New York is in the mid-to-high 50s. A Suffolk poll this month had him at 57 percent, and a majority of New Yorkers said he has done better than they expected.
Trump’s number nationally is sitting in the mid-30s. Marquette just had him at 37 approve and 63 disapprove, the weakest reading of his second term. Other surveys have been even lower. That is historically bad this far into a presidency, and it is getting worse as gas prices and the Iran war pile up.
So the president with one of the worst approval ratings of the modern era is making a house call on the socialist he ran against as an existential threat, because the socialist is more popular in his own city than Trump is in the country.
