I had the honour of leading Uganda’s delegation at the 100th Session of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, where we presented Uganda’s Combined 3rd–5th Periodic Report and accounted for our progress in fulfilling our obligations under the Convention on the Rights of the Child. We highlighted key advances in child protection, education, health and juvenile justice, while openly acknowledging the gaps that require stronger systems, sustained investment and decisive action. The engagement also reaffirmed the importance of protecting children in vulnerable situations and ensuring that their voices meaningfully inform decisions that affect their lives. Our priorities are clear: turn policies into measurable impact, strengthen protection and support systems, and place children at the centre of governance and national development. The Geneva review is therefore not an endpoint, but an opportunity to listen, learn and accelerate implementation. The true measure of our commitment is not what we record in reports, but the difference we make in the life of every Ugandan child. Today, I conclude the first day of my two-day strategic engagement with the Makerere University community, bringing together university leadership, researchers, innovators, students and industry stakeholders around a shared national imperative: strengthening Uganda’s science, technology and innovation ecosystem. From strategic discussions on Makerere’s research portfolio to engagements across engineering, manufacturing, digital technology, agro-industrial, natural sciences and enterprise platforms, I have witnessed the depth of intellectual and technical capacity within our university system. Traversing CEDAT, the Marconi Research and Innovation Laboratory, MAPRONANO, the National AI Research Cloud, CoCIS laboratories, food-technology platforms, strategic research facilities, UniPod and MUTIC has reinforced one imperative: Uganda must move decisively from research to innovation, innovation to patents, patents to commercially viable products, and products to scalable enterprises. Our task is to build the institutional, financial and industrial pathways that enable knowledge to improve lives, create quality jobs and power competitive industries. I leave this first day convinced that deeper collaboration among Government, academia, research institutions and industry is essential to our technological sovereignty and industrial transformation. As we pursue a USD 500 billion economy by 2040, Makerere’s scientific excellence and intellectual capital must be harnessed as strategic national assets, ensuring that innovation moves beyond laboratories to drive industrialisation, improved livelihoods and sustainable socio-economic transformation. #STIUganda

UGANDA PARTICIPATES IN THE 68TH WIPO ASSEMBLIES IN GENEVA Uganda is participating in the 68th Session of the Assemblies of the Member States of the @WIPO in Geneva, Switzerland, from 7 to 16 July 2026. The Ugandan delegation is led by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. @norbertmao, and includes Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the @UN Office, H.E. Marcel Robert Tibaleka; the Deputy Registrar General, Registries, Mr. @NtaleMustapher and the Assistant Commissioner Registration Services, Mr. @lubwamajt2, representing the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB). The Assemblies bring together @WIPO Member States to discuss global intellectual property policy, innovation, creativity, and the future of the international IP ecosystem. The annual meetings provide a platform for countries to shape policies that strengthen intellectual property systems and promote innovation-driven economic development. In his address to the Assembly, Hon. @norbertmao called for a more accessible, practical, and people-centred global intellectual property system.
