I was at work when the news broke. I’ll never forget watching the Islamist terrorist attack on the twin towers on 9/11. The horrendous images, the uncertainly about what would happen next. We must never ever forget what drove this attack and the threat it still poses.

My first visit to Philadelphia. I’m disconcerted. So much pride, wealth and history yet so many people on the street with obvious addiction and serious mental health issues. Something has broken here and the symptoms are quite distressing to see. 1/3

The pain so many people are suffering is right in your face. Along with the frequent smell of cannabis. Housing, health, policing, social services, civic society. I don’t understand what’s happening but the issue is far to big to ignore 2/3

I’d always assumed government alerts issued to all mobile phones were for serious, imminent danger. Wildfires are serious but if the alerts are used for general public safety briefings people will become complacent and they will lose their value.

Our first visit to Lisbon is going wonderfully. What an incredible, historic, fascinating, welcoming, safe yet exciting city. There is something magical here that makes me want to know more.

New investment into mental health services is welcome. My fear however, and I’m already seeing some of the positioning, is that it’s the same models, same providers, same culture etc that’s had huge investments over last decade or so yet failed to deliver on past promises. 1/2
