The quota system is the core mechanism of Canada's supply management.
It has kept dairy, eggs and poultry behind a wall of quotas and tariffs for more than 50 years. That makes Canadians pay 37 to 55% more for eggs, chicken and milk.
Ending the quota system would open Canada up to competition, bring down grocery prices (in a single budget), treat every farmer with the same fairness and remove the biggest obstacle to Canada signing new trade deals.

What's wild about the story Eric is talking about, but missed in the coverage, is what "still being reviewed for public funding means". Health Canada determines that a drug is safe and effective. Then the opaque Canada Drug Agency does their recommendation on funding (which adds 300+ days to the lag time). But the kicker? The CDA's guidance for provinces is non-binding, meaning the province itself is the final decision maker anyway.
Yes, we delay access to drugs by 300+ days for a non-binding decision on a drug AFTER Health Canada has deemed it safe and effective
This entire story is just ghastly and a horrifying indictment of Canada’s/Ontario’s healthcare bureaucracy.
Simply put, nobody should have to go to court to get access to lifesaving care, yet that is exactly what happened to Alex.
It’s equally appalling that the Health Minister, @SylviaJonesMPP ghosted a father simply fighting for their life and future.
Many people involved in this saga need to do some reflection on how they let procedural technicalities be prioritized over one of our citizens lives.
