Vibe coding is cool.. but I promise you.. if you’re creating a tool that automatically edits for you, with the intention of selling it as a subscription… it’s very, very, very, very, very, very, over saturated. You may want to focus on a new tool that’s never been made before.

For context, this morning I turned down sponsorships / collaborations from 9 different brands offering this exact product. 9. In one night. I’m not saying it’s not helpful, but there’s just too many products doing the exact same thing.

Called it this afternoon. Alberta stays. 🇨🇦 About 78% chose Canada. After a weekend where we lost four soldiers in Wainwright, this one hits different. We're still one country.

Alberta votes today. My prediction: Alberta stays. And not because anyone forced it, but because when it really counts, most of us know we're stronger together. Doesn't matter if you're in Calgary, Ottawa, Montreal or Halifax. We've all been pushed apart lately by politics, by algorithms, by people who profit when we fight. Whatever the result tonight, the job after is the same: listen to each other more, divide less, and start acting like one country again. What would make you feel more connected to Canadians in other provinces? 🇨🇦

I did not realize you could do this over ADB. Samsung has SDB (similar to adb), works over Wifi. I have a Samsung Freestyle projector that I use quite often. It has always been painfully slow, and I assumed it was the hardware. Gave Opus 5.5 the task of speeding it up, but it refused, citing cybersecurity concerns and downgraded to 4.8, and it still refused. Tried Astra instead. It could not remove the bloatware, so it built a custom launcher, replaced the default one, and disabled a bunch of unnecessary apps. Now the entire thing boots up in 1 second. 🤯
Vibe coded my parents' TV this afternoon! It was showing a sponsored ad before you could even get to Netflix. Gave Claude Code the model number, it found the TV on wifi, removed 25 Xiaomi packages and wrote a new launcher. Looks like an Apple TV now lol

I work on making the datacenters more efficient, saving as much energy as possible. Because every 2x I save on training wattage, I justify creating 10x more datacenters

Can we get people to build it here in Canada

Think about the tech you used today. Your phone, your email, your cloud storage, your maps, your work chat. Almost all of it is owned by a handful of American companies. That isn't an anti-American take. It's a dependency problem. Look at Ukraine this month. Starlink speeds were capped on moving terminals, and their drone defences struggled during attacks. Whoever made the call, one decision made thousands of kilometres away changed what happened on the ground. Now imagine that's our internet, our cloud, our emergency systems. That's not just a tech problem. It's a security problem. And we have the talent. Waterloo, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver turn out some of the best engineers in the world. Then most of them go build for someone else. Canada needs its own cloud, its own satellites, its own tools, built here and owned here. If you could switch one app in your life to a Canadian-built one, which would it be?

Religion. Nationality. Politics. Skin colour. Which side you're on. We've never had more ways to divide ourselves, and we're using every one of them. Meanwhile, people are dying. Families are grieving. And we're still busy arguing in the comments about who deserves sympathy. Pain doesn't check your passport or your religion before it shows up. You don't have to agree with someone to be kind to them. You just have to remember they're human. Be kind today. Somebody out there needs it more than you know.

No joke, it's actually very scary how stupid you ppl are. You really think El*n is going to sell you a vehicle that will be doing flips in traffic?
Marques Brownlee says Tesla will never deliver the Rocket version of their new Roadster: “There’s no way you or I will be able to buy this car. We might as well ignore this becoming a real product. The base one, the fan car one, I can see that being possible. But at this point, I don’t even think it matters, because Tesla has proven to us that the Roadster is by far their least important product.” I think Marques will be proven wrong, on all fronts. They didn’t spend years developing it to just not make it. While this new Roadster still has plenty of development work to go, the 2017 Roadster was much more of a prototype than this new one IMO. Tesla wants to deliver for all the people that put down deposit money all those years ago, and I think they will.

Developer, be honest: AI writes 90% of your code... Why are you still a developer?

This is starting to be an outdated way of thinking. A developer isn't just a "code typer." Writing code is one part of the job. Understanding the problem, deciding what to build, making tradeoffs, debugging, and maintaining the thing after it ships are all part of development. Even if AI writes 90% of the code, someone still has to know whether that code solves the right problem, fits the system, and will hold up beyond a demo. You can generate a lot of code without understanding any of it, but that becomes a problem when something breaks or the requirements change. If you're directing the work, understanding the output, and taking responsibility for what ships, you're still a developer. The workflow is changing, and the skills we emphasize will change with it. Counting who typed the most lines doesn't tell you much about who actually built the software.

Four Canadian soldiers didn't come home from training this weekend. 39 more are hurt, and 19 of them are still fighting in hospitals in Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary. Peacetime. Home soil. Just doing their job. To the families, and to the 3 PPCLI family who lost their own: Canada is with you. 🇨🇦

Walter Isaacson, the guy who wrote Steve Jobs' biography, says Jobs would have hated agentic AI. His reasoning: Jobs wanted computers to be "a bicycle for the mind." Tools that make you faster and more creative, with you still steering. Agents flip that. You don't ride the bike anymore. You tell it where to go and look at your phone. And honestly, I get both sides. I love when a tool just handles the boring stuff. But the stuff I'm proudest of building came from the hours where I was stuck, figuring it out myself. So I keep asking myself whether we're building bicycles or taxis. Which one do you want, a tool that makes you better or one that just does it for you?

Entry-level job postings in New York City are down as much as 40% in design and media since ChatGPT launched. Support roles are down 34%, clerical work 30%. Meanwhile, postings that require AI skills are up 55%. Mostly for experienced people. Here's what worries me. Every senior dev, designer or writer you know started as a junior, doing the boring tasks AI now handles in seconds. That's where we learned. If nobody hires juniors today, who becomes senior in 10 years? Do you think companies are cutting their own future short, or will a new path into tech show up?

Flags are at half-mast across Canada tonight. We lost service members at CFB Wainwright, on home soil, during peacetime training. Dozens more are hurt. They were someone's son, daughter, mom, dad, best friend. If you pass a flag tomorrow, take a second. Say their names when we learn them. Rest easy. 🇨🇦

The older I get, the more I realize how easy hate is. It takes one post to divide people. One angry reply. One "us vs them." It spreads fast, and it pays well in likes. Being kind is so much harder. Reading something cruel and not firing back. Assuming the person on the other side is probably tired, scared, or having a bad day, just like you. In a world this divided, not answering hate with hate might be the hardest thing any of us do. I don't always get it right. But I'm trying.
