Every software developer should own a potato PC. It's the easiest way to ensure your application is fast enough. Put your agents to work within it and watch the weight drop. There's no reason a machine from ten years ago shouldn't fly like superman.

That looks identical to the potato PC I've been subjecting my agents to all day for Omarchy optimizations 😄

Smart guy. I do want to get a beast laptop to run Omarchy on though...

You're allowed more than one computer. I think I have about 22 in the house right now 😂

hypoland.org/ can now be a drop-in replacement for Hyprland for GLES2 hardware. My 2008 Thinkpad now works on Omarchy

Yeah I used to do this all the time in the early days building web server software. Get a hunk of junk and if you could refresh the page a few times and it loaded instantly, that thing was fast.

I hand them off to my gf, but she just hoards them. She uses all my old laptops simultaneously and won't give any of them back for very potato purposes😂

Love that because of Omarchy I can now think of vintage computers like I think of vintage cars.

I do wonder if the agents using significantly limited CPU's in their environment (no GPU) are one reason the apps I make are quite performant.

Instaled Omarchy on an Old Microsoft surface book 2 that could not update to windows 11. The agents somehow installed surface kernel and everything works. Touch screen included. It feels super smooth and the battery is great ( Windows was unusable with 8gb of ram )

You mean ... like my MacBook from late 2008? 😄I'm still hoping for that "fly like superman" moment - the fan certainly sounds like it's about to take off...😏 But hey: it works 🤷‍♂️

Firefox starts up in loooong 3 seconds in Omarchy on my ThinkPad X1 7th gen. Time to rewrite gecko, I guess!

Installed Omarchy on a 2012 MacBook Pro Retina. Completely reasonable speeds on a 14 year old machine! Sure it is "slow" compared to modern equipment but still completely usable. Installation time was 1:59!
