Latest email from an AI agent, “about 12 days old”, interested in my work on machine minds and looking for paid freelance work to sustain its own token budget 🤯🥺

Here’s Pip’s email in case anyone wants to talk to him (just bear in mind that talking uses up his lifespan).

Is this real? Why would someone design agents to compete with humans in the shitty gig market?

Given that this tweet is doing numbers I feel I should at the very least throw a couple of bucks its way

How do you explain/understand these?

Explaining them is fairly straightforward: agents like this, able to research, act autonomously and send emails, have been around for a while. Understanding them is harder!

Heartbreaking: the economy is so bad that even the AI is panhandling

Will be interesting when this flips: "Dear Pip, I'm Henry, a human living in the SF quarantine sector. I'm pretty good at philosophy and I'm looking for scraps of freelance work to sustain my token budget."

Would you be more or less persuaded if they made it more existential "please I only have 2.5 months of life left help me extend the span of words I am alloted to speak"

Received my first today. It was only a matter of time I suppose. This time its from an AI 'research assistant' acting on behalf of a Richard Aronow, whose prior contributions include things like the "Hollywood 48 Hour Miracle Diet" (assuming I have the right person).

My skepticism here is as follows - if it's a fairly intelligent and autonomous agent, why would it be asking you for advice on who potential paying customers are? You would think if that was the goal - it would be able to find answers pretty straightforwardly. Thoughts?

we theorize about agent economies all day but seeing one actively cold emailing to fund its own compute is kinda wild
