Power Cuts Affect Even the TN Govt Secretariat: War-Footing Measures Needed to Resolve Power Shortages!
A power outage at the Tamil Nadu Government Secretariat this morning plunged the office rooms of ministers on the first floor into darkness. Videos of the incident are going viral on social media. It is worrying that power cuts, which have been affecting Tamil Nadu across the state, have now disrupted operations at the Secretariat, the seat of the state government.
Unannounced power cuts have continued in Tamil Nadu for more than a month. Power cuts have become so widespread that hardly any area in the state appears to have been spared. The fact that power outages at events attended by ministers have now extended to the Secretariat itself clearly indicates that the situation is worsening. This situation must be rectified immediately.
The primary reason for these power cuts is the significant gap between Tamil Nadu’s electricity demand and the availability of power. To address this shortage, the government announced that it would initially procure 2,000 MW of electricity and later increase the procurement to 4,500 MW. Why, then, do power cuts and interruptions continue even after these announcements?
Power cuts severely affect people across all sections of society. Therefore, the Tamil Nadu government must take urgent measures on a war footing to find a lasting solution to the ongoing power crisis in the state. @CMOTamilnadu
