I was a Bitcoin maxi. We were told small blocks would keep it ultra secure and decentralized, and payments would be built on layer twos
They said self-custodial Lightning could scale and custodial wallets are temporary. Nope. Anyone who spoke the truth was ridiculed
That’s why we are hard forking Bitcoin. We are building the layer twos that were promised to us. Either Bitcoin will do the simplest soft fork, or it will be replaced
ECASH is not like other hard forks. It is not like other altcoins. It is the altcoin to end all altcoins
ECASH is not actually making any upgrades that Bitcoin cannot make itself. The blocksize will be decreased to 400kb and we are adding drivechains. Bitcoin can do this today, and the software to do it has been built
If you don’t know what drivechains are, now is a good time to learn. The fork is coming in August, and if Bitcoin doesn’t act soon, it will be too late
ECASH holders will be richer and more sovereign than Bitcoiners can hope for

Bitcoin Hard Fork: eCash Beta Is Live
Bitcoin's biggest limitation has always been change itself. New functionality means years of soft fork debate, while L1 stays intentionally frozen to protect the monetary base.
Drivechains (BIP 300/301) fix this: sidechains pegged to BTC, independent of L1. Succeed, and Bitcoin gains new utility and fee revenue. Fail, and L1 is untouched.
eCash is the first real network built on this model, and Alpha proved it. Hashrate hit 9.44 PH/s, 7 independent pools mined blocks, and the community shipped a bunch of tools unprompted:
1/ pecx.shop / peesex.shop - first pECX↔BTC AMM, built in days
2/ szats.world - pECX faucet, hit by proxy farmers within hours
3/ explorer.alpha.ecash.ninja - the first block explorer
4/ eCashPool & NurseryPool - community mining pools, one paying out in Thunder on principle

6/ The eCash Splitter - official coin-splitting tool, GUI + CLI, shipped mid-alpha

Beta improves the pECX burn rate 👉 1,000 pECX → 20 real ECX (up from 10 in Alpha)
The pECX tokens are in addition, not instead of the original 1:1 airdrop. Every BTC holder still gets ECX 1:1 at full launch on October 31 regardless. Burning pECX now is a bonus on top of that, extra ECX for showing up early.
Receiving and splitting:
Hold BTC non-custodially at the fork block, you get equal ECX automatically, nothing moves or converts. eCash uses opt-in protection, not built-in, so every wallet and exchange keeps working on day one, but that means until you split, moving BTC could move your ECX too.
Splitting is a one-time fix, three ways to do it, two are one-tap in official eCash software, the third uses standard Bitcoin tooling only.
BTC on an exchange? You can't split yourself. We're in touch with exchanges about crediting ECX, or you can withdraw to self-custody before Oct 31 and split it yourself.

To those responsible for the theft of bitcoin from the Liquid Network:
Blockstream will not pay a ransom for the return of stolen funds. Taking assets without authorization and withholding their return is a crime, not responsible disclosure. It is not white-hat activity. It is theft.
We have engaged in good faith in an effort to secure the return of stolen user funds and protect the broader Bitcoin community. That effort should not be mistaken for acceptance of the actions taken nor of the terms being demanded.
We will not be a party to the precedent that open-source software developed for the good of the Bitcoin community should subject its developers to paying a ransom that far exceeds their economic participation.
Bitcoin is hard money and can’t be minted without costs, Bitcoin doesn’t haircut users to pay a ransom.
To the Bitcoin community:
We are fighting for what we believe in, for the users whose funds were taken, and for the principles on which Bitcoin was built.
The community has demonstrated incredible resolve with teams of people dedicating their time in support of each other to identify and patch vulnerabilities in each other's products and systems. We are all driven by the mission that Bitcoin is the single best asset, for every person, company, and institution on the planet to invest, use, and build on. The world is a different place with the advancements of AI, and the Bitcoin community has responded with force to combat that threat.
Damage has been done, battles have been lost, but on the whole the Bitcoin community is gaining ground in the war with bad actors.
We want to thank the community for those efforts, for your support in hardening the network, helping users recover funds, and for your support in our assertion that crime does not deserve rewards.
To those holding the stolen bitcoin:
There is still an opportunity to resolve this responsibly. The bitcoin can be returned and we can revert to the standard of white-hat principals.
However, if the funds are not returned, we will pursue every lawful avenue available to us. We will work with law enforcement, exchanges, service providers, forensic specialists, and other relevant parties to trace and recover the assets and identify those responsible.
More importantly, Bitcoin is transparent by design and the community is made up of the most sophisticated engineers, cryptographers, and white-hat hackers globally. Transactions do not disappear, and neither does the evidence they leave behind.
We will not pay for the return of stolen property. We will not abandon our users. The Bitcoin community will not stop pursuing the funds.
Return the bitcoin.

Imagine two scenarios:
Scenario 1
========
As you walk the crowded streets of Tokyo, you see that someone left their front door open. Inside, is 4000 BTC. You go in and take it.
Instead, you could have just locked and closed the door. Or kept walking!
So -- pretty mean! Yes. I agree.
Scenario 2
========
You are a whitehat hacker, ASH. But you have a rival, GARY, who is a blackhat hacker in your same town.
Both of you are in love with the same girl: Misty. But you both also love: Hacking. For years, the two of you *race* to see who can find vulnerabilities fastest.
Each of you suspects the other of investigating Blockstream's Liquid. And indeed you are. Every morning, you text with MISTY, and also check on your hack experiments. Every night, the same. You use every ounce of cunning you possess, to try to Hack Liquid before GARY. (Meanwhile, by the way, Blockstream is tweeting about 'treasury companies' and 'mining notes' and other bullshit.)
You take MISTY on a date -- so does GARY. You hit the gym -- so does GARY. You style your hair, you get nice clothes -- the blackhat matches you, move for move.
Poor MISTY is really quite torn, between the two of you -- (although, presumably, she is rather enjoying all the attention).
Then, one Friday, around 4 PM, MISTY invites you to a party at her friend ERICA's house...
...but, 5 minutes before setting out, you make your big Breakthrough. You now can hack Liquid! It will only take 2 or 3 more hours... Meanwhile, GARY is headed to MISTY's party... he has a big grin on his face. Has he also made the breakthrough?
You decide to go full hack mode. You complete the hack by 11 PM. You add the "we are whitehats" to an op return, and then book it to MISTY's party -- you get there at around 11:45 PM. Very late, but pumped full of energy -- you are (temporarily) 4000 BTC richer. And you have defeated your rival -- you can't wait to rub it in his face.
But -- you are heartbroken to find that MISTY and GARY have hit it off. She is insulted and hurt that you did not prioritize her party. So -- although you won the hacking race, it has cost you MISTY.
"Where have you been?!", your friend, BROCK, asks. He is frustrated on your behalf. You've been talking about MISTY for months, and BROCK was sure to be here on time, to be your wingman. "Uh... sorry... something with work", you mumble out. Everyone at the party wants to know, as well. "Uh... sorry... I lost track of time", you mumble. Everyone who vouched for you is embarrassed -- everyone is disappointed in you.
Bitter, and alienated from the world, you walk outside for some fresh air. You look up at the Heavens. You check your phone, and see that X is blowing up about the Liquid hack. Miserable and dejected, you ghost everyone at the party and head home. Desperately appealing to God and/or Karma, you preemptively give 3600 coins back, after corresponding with Blockstream via PGP op Return.
Then, a bunch of people -- who have small penises and are incapable of hacking -- whine online like a bunch of crybabies. One, SABRINA, says it is "wrong" or "extortion" for you to hang onto the last 600 BTC -- even temporarily.
So, you give the last 600 BTC back, to Blockstream. But MISTY ends up marrying GARY. Blockstream double-crosses you -- instead of paying you a bug bounty (as they promised), they report you to the police anyway. Using clues from your correspondence with Blockstream, you are tracked down, and arrested, and (unable to afford a good lawyer), you are sent to jail for 5 years and forbidden from using a computer for 15 years. Meanwhile GARY goes on to become a great hacker, and fathers 14 children with MISTY. Unable to pursue either MISTY or Hacking, you h**g yourself in your cell.
The day after your funeral (which no one attends), GARY hacks SABRINA and takes all her coins. It was a hacker-race that GARY would have lost, to ASH, if ASH were free. Too bad for SABRINA.
The end!
Actually, I think the 15% tip is pretty reasonable
Absent that, it creates a perverse incentive:
- take ALL coins immediately; and immediately MIX them all
- do NOT contact anyone, ever
No gratitude at all, for the returned 3400 coins? That does seem to me to be pretty messed up.

A rug pull on a “Liquid drivechain” would take six months before the hacker could withdraw the funds onchain, and it would most likely prompt miners to vote against the peg-out.

A thread about "Liquid" -- one of Bitcoin's worst ideas ever
It has just been drained of 4000 of its BTC
We are aware of a security incident on @Liquid_BTC. Purported white-hat hackers have withdrawn ~4,000 BTC (~$320 million) from the Liquid Federation wallet. The @Blockstream team is working on contacting them on-chain with a signed message.
What we know so far is that the funds were withdrawn via the SideSwap PAK (Peg-out Authorization Key), but that key was not compromised, nor were any others.
Exchanges have been notified and have already paused (or will pause) LBTC deposits and withdrawals. Other Liquid assets such as USDT, DePix, and RWAs are unaffected by this security incident.
Bridge nodes have been temporarily disabled, so no new transactions can be submitted to the network. Effectively, the Liquid sidechain is paused until this issue is resolved.
Liquid wallets will be impacted, and we're sorry for any inconvenience. Federation members are actively working on resolving this so we can restore normal network activity.

This would never happen on Lightning, because the entire Lightning Network doesn’t have 4000 coins to steal
It looks like ~4,000 BTC just moved from the Liquid Network bridge all at once with an OP Return saying, "we are whitehats. contact us on chain".
