Opinion: The excesses of DEI 1.0 left many nonprofit leaders quietly uneasy but unsure how to say so. @EbooPatel argues that Tyler Austin Harper's viral @TheAtlantic essay gives the sector permission — and a framework — to finally have the honest conversation. phlnthrp.com/4gSAJ7z

This is a fantastic piece by @EbooPatel On a personal note, Geoffrey Walford was also my doctoral co-supervisor, so I'm delighted to see this: “I’m failing at this,” I told my PhD advisor, Geoffrey Walford. “I can’t seem to be present at the moments where racism occurs, or even get them to discuss it much in my interviews with them. Maybe I’m asking the wrong questions? Maybe they don’t trust me?” “Or maybe,” Geoffrey offered, “your theory is wrong. Maybe they don’t see racism impacting their lives as much as you expected—or as much as you want racism to have impacted their lives.” He added: “Remember, sociology is meant to explore how your subjects understand their own lives, not how you want them to understand their lives. The cardinal sin of the social researcher is squeezing the world into his worldview.” persuasion.community/p/we-mu…

"In an era of tectonic changes, full of charlatans, we need sociology more than ever to do its job: to be a discipline that helps us develop worldviews that genuinely explain the world around us," writes TPN member @EbooPatel. "Only then can we hope to improve it for the better." persuasion.community/p/we-mu…

@EbooPatel argues that if sociology is to regain the trust of students, universities, and the public, it must abandon activist posturing and return to rigorous, open-ended research. open.substack.com/pub/persua…

Really moved that you mentioned us, @StevenOlikara . It’s been so inspiring watching you build two significant institutions in the bridging space.
Thank you @Forbes and Afdhel Aziz for profiling our storytelling movement! I’m grateful to the @BridgeEntLabs community of storytellers who courageously tell more complex, human stories—ones that challenge stereotypes, encourage curiosity, and remind audiences of what they share. Special shout out to the people and organizations who shaped this bridgebuilding and narrative work and are mentioned in this piece - from my Milwaukee jazz friends to @futurecaucus to @EbooPatel of @interfaithusa. Those formative experiences and mentors made me a hopeful person and a true believer in the mission. The work now is to scale the belief that a pluralistic society is possible. That happens through the stories we choose to tell. forbes.com/sites/afdhelaziz/…

Really thoughtful piece by @mroth78 - higher Ed needs to own its problems (like becoming an ideological monoculture), but universities still have a profound civic mission. nytimes.com/2026/04/22/opini…

Opinion: As the conflict with Iran escalates, the U.S. is seeing another rise in Islamophobia. Columnist @EbooPatel writes that civic institutions have a unique responsibility — and opportunity — to respond with pluralism, not polarization. Patel outlines a five step plan that nonprofits, foundations, universities, libraries, and museums can use to shift anti-Muslim public narratives. phlnthrp.com/4b8H9fW

@EbooPatel, the president of @interfaithusa, is a ardent champion of diversity as a core American value. Yet he's also a sharp and penetrating critic of the excesses and blind spots of the DEI regimes that have embedded themselves in the institutions of blue cosmopolitan America. So what does Eboo mean when he argues we are better served by a notion of diversity rooted in pluralism, not identitarianism? @hyded and I will dig into that question, and others, with Eboo during the next live taping (link to event details in the next tweet) of Blue City Blues, which will be on March 11 at Seattle University, as part of their excellent Presidential Speaker Series that focuses on promoting free speech, viewpoint diversity. and campus discourse. And a special thanks to friend of the pod @SeattleU_Pres Eduardo Peñalver for inviting us to participate. We're really looking forward to this!
