🐻💛 ROLL FORWARD, GOLDEN BEARS! 💛🐻
Every year, Lynette and I try to find a way to give back to our community, and this year we are so excited to partner with Vine Middle Magnet Academy!
After speaking with their Community Schools Site Coordinator, Kyle, we learned more about some of the very real challenges facing Vine students and their families—and we knew this was where we wanted to focus our efforts this year.
Vine serves a wonderfully diverse group of students, including many children and families who face barriers that most of us may never have to think about—things as basic as having reliable transportation to get to school or having access to a computer at home.
When we heard what some of these kids are up against, this became about so much more than a fundraiser for us.
This isn’t simply about buying “things.” It’s about giving kids opportunities. ❤️
Some Vine students struggle with chronic tardiness or absenteeism because they don’t have reliable transportation to school. The school specifically recommended electric scooters as a practical way to help address that barrier.
Bicycles were considered, but Vine simply doesn’t have the space to store a large number of bikes, and many students don’t know how to ride one. Scooters require considerably less storage space and can provide a practical transportation option for students who need it.
But the scooters are about more than transportation.
They’ll also become part of Vine’s larger effort to improve attendance, reinforce positive behavior, celebrate students, and create a more positive school culture—giving kids something meaningful to work toward and feel proud of.
💻 Technology is another very real barrier.
Vine has a partnership with KUB that can help families obtain Wi-Fi access, but students cannot take their school-issued laptops home. For a child without a computer at home, having internet access only solves half the problem. Refurbished laptops could give these students a reliable way to complete schoolwork outside of the classroom.
🎨 And then there are the art kits, which are always a huge hit with Vine’s students and provide another opportunity for creativity, accomplishment, and simply getting to be a kid.
So Kyle gave us Vine’s “GO BIG” wish list:
🛴 Electric Scooters
⛑️ Helmets
💻 Refurbished Laptops
📱 Tablets
🎨 Art Kits
🧤 Pairs of Gloves
🧣 Scarves
🧢 Beanie Caps
Is that a HUGE goal?
Yep. 😂
Are we are both crazy enough to see what our community can do with it?
Also yep. 😂❤️
But here’s the most important part:
We don’t have to fulfill the entire list for this to be successful.
One scooter matters.
One helmet matters.
One laptop matters.
One art kit matters.
Because one child having a better chance matters. ❤️
Sometimes something relatively small can make an enormous difference in a child’s ability to show up, participate, succeed, and know that someone believes in them.
So we’re calling on our friends, family, coworkers, local businesses, fellow Vol fans 🧡, and our entire East Tennessee community to help us:
🐻💛 ROLL FORWARD THE GOLDEN BEARS! 💛🐻
You can sponsor an item, contribute toward an item, purchase something directly from the wish list, or simply SHARE this post and help us reach someone who can.
No contribution is too small. We’ve seen firsthand what happens when this community comes together.
A whole lot of people doing a little can accomplish something BIG.
And more than anything, we want the students at Vine to know:
Your community sees you.
Your community believes in you.
Your community is cheering for you.
And your community is investing in your future. ❤️
