There is a park two blocks away. A big park. AKA Central Park. More manufactured congestion courtesy of @NYC_DOT.
We're putting the “park” in Park Avenue.    Today we released the final concept for the redesign of Park Avenue from 46th Street to 57th Street. This project will transform the stretch of Park Avenue to make it safer, greener, and more welcoming.

Grok: is the class warfare? Yes. While historical socialist revolution aimed to forcibly overthrow the capitalist class (the bourgeoisie), modern municipal socialism uses urban planning like bike lanes to chip away at corporate dominance over public space.

Im confused. You believe that NYC of yesteryear is perfect and without flaws and needs no changing, and yet returning this street to its original design is wrong. Do you still believe that the past was better or are you simple anti change?

It is impossible to operate a vehicle in NYC. Entitled cyclists taking over the road - delivery guys to Citibikers - all with massive attitudes…the mind numbing rules of the road! How will contractors fare in the future. Let them do their own DIYs. Manufactured congestion 💯

This is the what happens when spoiled rich kids become politicians and want to push their fringe hobby onto people just trying to commute. What will really happen will be the new Park Ave homeless encampment

There's a highway 3 blocks away.

Two blocks away? Look at a map. Central Park is between 8 minutes and 20 minutes away from this corridor. Meanwhile, for those who wish to drive, there is another avenue one block away on either direction, as well as the lanes for cars that will remain right here on Park Avenue!

This just turns things back a few years more than you remember.

Counterpoint: Manhattan should be car-free.

They’re just announcing max number of projects to start robbing money for fees for consulting and planning and other robberies as soon as possible. Most or all will never be completed or will take 2-3x longer and 5-10x the already inflated projected cost

Worst idea ever. Are we going to have costumed characters like in Times Square?

All the people complaining don't live in Manhattan or anywhere near Park Ave. This is welcome, and it'll be nice to have a little bazaar or small events on Park Ave.

You’ve clearly never sit foot on Park Avenue. I will agree that the bike lanes (and I’m for them 95% of the time) don’t belong here.

Hating parks because you prefer traffic is psychotic

Can't wait for the homeless to camp out everywhere in that stretch because the entitled spandex warriors will still be riding in the traffic lanes and on sidewalks.

Such a stupid place to do it, 90% of Park Ave from 46th to 57th is commercial buildings. Theyre not even doing it for local residents and its obvious.

Think the libs renamed the DOT as Department of TRAFFIC. Unbelievable.

Money we shouldn’t be spending. On things we don’t need. How about fixing the subway infrastructure. Or coming up with a new profound idea on how to move people in and out of the city. Or maybe just trains and busses that keep moving after hours for night time workers?

Imagine how much of a freak you have to be to prefer roads and cars to spaces for people

More lanes are the problem, not restoring a city to its glory past

Such small dreams you have—sad!

Central Park starts from the 59th street. It is 2 avenues blocks (Park-Madison, Madison-Fifth) and 2 street blocks (57-59) away from *the very edge* of this project.

(It's not about creating parks, it's about governmental control over what kind of transit you operate. Have you heard, the earth is burning)

There’s another avenue just a block away.

they introduce congestion pricing claiming to reduce traffic then release a new plan to increase traffic......they literally lie about everything🤣.

Take away lanes, create more gridlock, charge the working man more

It’s so great! Safer for the kids walking to do many UES schools, easier to cross for pedestrians and traffic calming that helps everyone, including drivers. Looks so good!

And there is another street that cars can use one block away

It doesn't look good as a concept. The left turn lanes look awkward

It's better to have the utility and benefit to the public that comes from the park, over people commuting by car to make their destinations a few moments shorter. I have no sympathy, I've seen what car focused planning has done to Washington Park in Albany. Take public transport.

Yea but this way the homeless can be closer to the people

It's for the midtown office workers to have some outdoor space. Not the worst idea in the world. ... South bound traffic has to wrap GCT anyway which shrinks to one lane near the viaduct. Not a big deal.
