Starting in 2028, kids can graduate without passing a single standardized test, one of the only real checks we have on whether students are actually learning what they need to know. Now districts will be able to set their own standards and grade their own students. That means less accountability and a greater chance that kids get pushed through the system without being prepared for college, a career, or life after graduation. That should concern every parent in New York. We already spend about $41,000 per student. Our kids deserve better than politicians lowering expectations and pretending the problem is solved. If Kathy Hochul really cared about our kids, she would be fighting to make our schools better, not making it easier to hide when they fail them.
