My favorite detective series. The best, I think, is "Roseanna," but they're all great.
Every summer I read a mystery/suspense writer in chronological order. This summer, I read the Martin Beck series written by the Swedish husband & wife team of Sjowall & Wahloo from 1965-1975. All 10 are terrific, getting better and better.

I owe @exlarson a huge apology. I didn't immediately grab "The Demon of Unrest" because I was told it compared Jan. 6 to the Civil War. I deserve much criticism in falling for that fake news. Finally reading it now. Fantastic stuff as always. Sorry, Mr. Larson.

Proof that the universe does have a sense of humor. During the fierce storm that struck Eastern Long Island at 9 p.m. July 4, a tree fell on this porta-potty. Happily no one was inside at the time!

Sometimes knowing the ending actually helps amp up the suspense. You know what's going to happen, but you don't want it to.
Dead Wake is so good…it makes a page turner out of the story even though basically nothing happens the first few days plus you already know how it ends. Masterful.
