A big day at the Tri-Cities YMCA! I was proud to help secure $1 million in federal funding to support these renovations and expand child care for families in the Grand Haven community. Reliable, affordable child care is essential for working families and our economy. I’m glad to see this investment helping the Y serve even more families across West Michigan.

Proud that my bipartisan, bicameral SEED Act has been signed into law to support our pre-K educators! Early childhood educators routinely dip into their own pockets for classroom supplies but until now were denied the same educator expense deduction available to K–12 teachers. This new law closes that gap, delivers long-overdue tax relief, and recognizes the essential role these educators play in giving our youngest learners a strong start.

Great to see the House pass our SEED Act, delivering relief for early childhood educators who cover classroom costs out of their own pockets. I am pleased to announce that my bipartisan SEED Act is now law! Mainers are fortunate to have so many dedicated educators who go above and beyond to support their students. That can include spending their own money on books, supplies, and other classroom materials. I authored the law that established the original educator out-of-pocket expense deduction for K-12 teachers, and I am delighted that the SEED Act, which I coauthored with Senator Michael Bennet, was signed into law today, extending that same tax relief to early childhood educators. Our early childhood educators play a critical role in helping our youngest students develop a lifelong love of learning, and they deserve the same support available to other teachers. I am proud that we have now made that a reality.
