I was there! Waymo got stuck because that intersection always has a yearly fireworks show that’s unpermitted. It got stuck because of the crowd all around it and first got graffitied, then had a windshield smashed in and being set on fire not too long after from a firework.

As the vaporized rock traveled into space (even to the moon!) it turned into micro spheres of rock that traveled back into the atmosphere. There were so many entering the atmosphere all at once that the heat generated upon reentry caused the atmosphere to be superheated.

One of the craziest things I’ve learned recently had to do with the impact that killed the dinos. Turns out the asteroid hit the earth so hard that the rock basically instantly vaporized upon impact. This literal rock gas spewed up into the atmosphere like a water droplet.
