The climate ideology of Mark Carney and the Liberal Party has kept Canada peripheral in Ukraine instead of directly challenging Russia’s energy security threat to Europe by stealing their markets.
We could be locking in hundreds of billions in long term gas contracts replacing Russia and proving our allies not just gas but secure supply from an aligned democracy.
The Liberals’ climate strategy has never worked because it is obsessed with the 1.4pc of Canadas domestic emissions instead of what we can do and be in the globe with our extraordinary resource base for commercial, diplomatic, security and environmental impact.
The greatest irony of this small minded strategy is how federal restrictions on gas pipelines landlocks our clean gas from decarbonising the growing coal-fired grid around the world at a scale that would make our nation actually net zero, removing more emissions than our entire carbon footprint.
And making us a few trillion dollars over the next few decades. Which could fund the kind of military and allied NATO engagement someone like Putin would actually fear.
It’s time for Canada to drop this failed domestic climate ideology so we can do more in the world and quit being our own worst enemy.
Poilievre moments ago "I would further add that Canada could have helped defund Putin."
"We could have approved the Energy East pipeline which would have sent a million barrels of Western Canadian Oil. To the Atlantic where could have been shipped to Europe. We could have approved LNG plant projects in Quebec and Atlantic Canada as the Germans the ukrainians the Greeks and others pleaded with us to do."
"All of that would have broken the dependence on Putin. But Justin Trudeau said there was no business case, he killed the Energy East Pipeline and Mark Carney supported him in killing all those projects."
