HAPPY 362nd BIRTHDAY TO THE ROYAL MARINES! 🫡28 OCTOBER 1664 - 362 years ago today, during the reign of King Charles II, a new military regiment was formed. Its name was the Duke of York and Albany's Maritime Regiment of Foot. Today, we know its successors as the Royal Marines. Originally raised to provide soldiers capable of fighting aboard ships and on land, the regiment began a military tradition spanning more than three and a half centuries. Royal Marines have served in some of the most significant conflicts in British history. At the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, Marines fought aboard Royal Navy warships as Nelson's fleet confronted the combined French and Spanish forces. They subsequently served through the Napoleonic Wars, the First World War and the Second World War. During the Second World War, the Royal Marines played an important part in the development of Britain's commando forces and amphibious warfare. In 1982, Royal Marines Commandos were central to the campaign to liberate the Falkland Islands. More recently, they have served in Iraq, Afghanistan and operations across the world. 🎖️The Royal Marines' famous cap badge features a globe and the word Gibraltar. Gibraltar commemorates the capture of the Rock in 1704, while the globe reflects the Corps' worldwide service. Their motto, Per Mare, Per Terram, means By Sea, By Land. From their beginnings as maritime infantry to today's highly trained Commando Force, the Royal Marines have built a reputation for determination, courage, discipline and professionalism. Imagine you are a dental hygienist and live in Sweden.. You are employed to help “migrant children” with their dental issues. He and his family faced financial hardship and almost lost their home, until some generous benefactors raised money for him. Bernt remains unemployed today, despite staff shortages for dentists in his area in Gotland. At the time, Sweden scoffed at the tests and claimed they were “discriminatory” but since then they have quietly brought in mass dental testing, for those whose age is in doubt, by the National Board of Forensic Medicine. Bernt deserves a medal. Not vilification and unemployment.
