Independent Ireland Leader Michael Collins TD has slammed the HSE for withdrawing employment offers made to recently graduated nursing students, describing the situation as a disgrace and demanding that it be urgently addressed. Reports that nursing graduates who had accepted full-time permanent positions at Cork University Hospital have subsequently been told that those offers are no longer valid are deeply concerning. “These are young people who have spent years training to become nurses, many of whom have already worked in our hospitals throughout their training, and who were told they had secured full-time employment,” said Deputy Collins. “Now, at the very point when they should be starting their careers, they are being told that those offers have been withdrawn and that some may instead be placed on a staff bank. “It is simply unacceptable. “The Government bends over backwards to tell us that Ireland needs inward migration to fill shortages of doctors, engineers, healthcare workers and other skilled professionals. “And yet here we have recently graduated nurses in Ireland, trained in Ireland and ready to work in our hospitals, being treated like this by the HSE. “It is a complete contradiction. “We should be doing everything possible to retain the highly skilled people we train here. Instead, we risk pushing them towards other countries where they will be welcomed and offered secure employment. “The HSE has apologised and said the original offers were made in error, but an apology is not good enough for graduates who have made plans around these jobs and are now facing uncertainty about their futures. “The Government needs to get a grip of this situation and urgently establish exactly what happened, how many graduates have been affected and what is being done to ensure that they are given proper employment opportunities. “I will be raising this issue as one of the first matters when the Dáil returns next week. “We cannot continue to spend years and significant public money training nurses only to leave them looking abroad for work when they qualify. “We need to retain the nurses we train, give them secure employment and put the people of Ireland first. “This is a disgrace and it needs to be addressed urgently.” @MichaelC_IND_TD

Timely point. Why do we have colleges if we are not hiring medical staff from them? Maybe just shut all the regional colleges and universities that hold these courses ? We will just import cheap labour , give them houses , make our young people emigrate, damn the consequences to our native population! . …. Another hare brained scheme brought to you by our FFG government!

The universities across Ireland who train these highly qualified nurses (and other graduates for that sake) should get together and demand that the Irish graduates are employed ahead of any other national- it’s outrageous that we train the best and import the worst!

The problem with your party is you lead it, talking out of both sides of your mouth. Proudly.standing there with a foreign Mayor that should never even be in Ireland then gaslight the people with your faux "care" about Irish nurses. You truly support their replacements

I know someone working in CUH who saw a bunch of Indian nurses being shown around the hospital. They were most likely getting a look around before starting work, and our young graduates getting shafted for these non Irish. Yet we are constantly being told we need these migrants.

Why the fuck do we need nurses from abroad? Pay the Irish nurses better, pay them the 11000 the recruitment company gets for finding the foreign nurses, also pay the the 5k resettlement money the nurses get in arrival, tax free on top of their wages, bet you will no vacancies!!

Yes, you can sue an employer for breach of contract if they withdraw a job offer after you have legally accepted it.

Does this go against visa regulations? As in isn't the rule if you can't find anyone in Ireland to do the job or the EU only then can you look outside the EU to issue a working visa?

Does that mean the need for mass migration no longer exists?.... Or will the next news headline read 'Treasonous Govt Admits: It Was Always About Replacing Us Irish. We are Too White, Too Blue-Eyed, Too Ginger, Too Kind & Too Stupid."

They would rather take indians with fake graduations and lies they trained as nurses. Thia comes fron the top and these people need to be taken down. Hospitals are nothing but a cult they dont care about the patients. The greed went beyond a joke and took over everything

So when they say that they can’t get the Irish to do the work , it was obvious a lie in order for them to have an excuse to get more migrants into the country. How many other well trained workers are lied to about lack of work only to be replaced

My daughter just completed 4 years of Nursing training in the North East and no offer of a job at all, even though they were promised positions. Yet we continue on the other hand to say we have a skills shortage and import others from abroad 🤔

The country needs easier ways to fire incompetent workers, so the employers don't have to fear giving someone a permanent contract as much.

Please see if there are Indians occupying this place. If Indians occupy this place, they will reject anyone that is not related to them. This is a fact that can be seen in all countries.
