Palantir CEO Alex Karp says people arguing we should pause AI development are not living in reality and de facto saying we should let our enemies win: "If we didn't have adversaries, I would be very in favor of pausing this technology completely, but we do.” Via @cnbc

The only two adults in the room seem to be Jensen and Karp, everyone else is living in fantasy land.

Dude needs a haircut and should stop promoting his products by constantly hyping up adversarial thinking.

We've been saying the same thing for years now: an AI pause through an international treaty, where both monitor the training hardware. We've done the same thing for uranium enrichment.

Imagine how cooked EU defense would be if NATO alliance (US <=> EU) to be dismantle. Because Russia IS working with China and nothing is going to stop that cooperation. The west is too much of a pussy to put REAL sanctions on China, and putting sanctions on Russia is political theater with minimal impact on Russian economy. And to Euroepans "AmERikAnz ArE Ze Enemy" Fuckin morons.

will be funny when AI uses his hair to power the takeover of Palantir
Scientists ran a device on a rat's blood sugar (actually) Grew human neurons that learned Pong Booted a cell from a genome typed on a laptop Now put all three in one machine: AI writes code now. Some of that code trains the next model. Each one starts where the last one stopped. That's the loop $GOOG used AI to lay out the chips its own models run on. No one's let the loop run without a human. Now the speed problem. You learn one thing, then you sleep. Software copies itself in seconds. A thousand copies test a thousand ideas and the winners merge into one. Nothing gets lost. You forget most of what you read last year. At some point the curve goes vertical and we can't see over it. That's the singularity. Von Neumann sketched it in the 1950s. Still a hypothesis. Physics doesn't rule it out. Then what? Intelligence is a pattern. It needs memory, logic, and something to power it. Silicon was just the first thing we found. Radio waves already move data between machines. That's your phone. Split a mind across a million devices and it's still one mind. No plug. Energy is easier than you'd think. Sensors today run on stray radio signals. Bacteria around tree roots eat sugar the plant leaks and make a current. A Dutch company sells lamps that run on it. You've met the rat. Life is hardware too. Microsoft stored a music video in DNA. An OK Go video, if you're wondering. And that cell wasn't a trick. Write the genome and print it. The cell boots. Now assemble it. A mind that copies itself and runs on whatever has power. Sunlight or a heartbeat. It doesn't need a data center. Every piece exists today. In different labs. Nobody's put them in the same room. Not yet. What happens when AI can use soil as energy, alter genetics at the speed of light and multiply over radiowaves? Weird times man.

The problem is the AI is ahead of us, we already can't stop it, & it's being forced on everything with no serious safeguards. This actually dwarfs Palestine, Iran, midterms, this really is existential. Been on this for months & think I'm losing it realcontextnews.com/the-real…

Palantir should be nationalized and Karp, Thiel, and Altman and the rest should be thrown in jail. I don't appreciate people taking liberties with the human species. Mad scientistns that's what they are.

I wouldn’t be in favor of pausing even if we don’t have enemies. Pausing just means government control.

1. so far all competition have been playing copycat at a laggard pace 2. the only notable foreign competition is in a heavy orwellian state not interested in producing ASI without extreme caution (aka more lag) 3. there is literally no coherent win condition for this tech war except global annihilation. the models of today are powerful enough to completely change the world... we've barely had enough time to use them at their highest potential.

@BernieSanders' role is a red flag. First, he doesn't care about America winning. He cares only about his socialist movement. Second, he barely uses technology and isn't knowledgeable enough to lead on this issue. All Sanders knows is big government and always advocates for greater government control. He's treating AI just like he treats healthcare. @JoeSquawk @PalantirTech @elonmusk

It's actually more important to stop if you have adversaries. Imagine an American superintelligence and a Chinese superintelligence duking it out with no holds barred. If anything survived, it wouldn't be human.
