🧵 Algorand just moved post-quantum security from the roadmap into users’ wallets.
Native Falcon-1024 accounts are now live on Mainnet.
And users can already create and use them through
@PeraAlgoWallet and
@LuteWallet
But this story started years ago. 👇🏻
Why does this matter?
Most blockchain accounts rely on elliptic-curve cryptography.
Powerful quantum computers could eventually threaten that security.
And that creates another problem:
Harvest now, decrypt later.
Data captured today could potentially be attacked in the future.
@Algorand started preparing years ago.
In 2022, Algorand deployed State Proofs using Falcon signatures.
These post-quantum signatures help protect the integrity of Algorand’s historical record against future quantum attacks.
But that was only the beginning.
In 2025, Falcon-based accounts were demonstrated on Algorand Mainnet.
But they relied on LogicSig smart contracts.
They worked, but added complexity.
To make post-quantum accounts practical for wallets and applications, Algorand needed Falcon at the protocol level.
That’s what Algorand v5.0.0 delivered.
Falcon-1024 signatures are now native to the Algorand protocol.
No LogicSig wrapper required.
A post-quantum signature can directly authorize a transaction.
And now it has reached users.
@PeraAlgoWallet supports native quantum-resilient accounts.
Users can:
→ create a Falcon-1024 account
→ use it natively
→ rekey an existing account to post-quantum authorization
And
@LuteWallet supports native PQ accounts too.
Rekeying is particularly interesting.
Your existing Algorand address can remain the same.
Your assets don’t need to move.
Instead, authorization changes so future transactions require the Falcon key.
Same account.
New cryptographic security model.
But there’s something bigger underneath Falcon:
Cryptographic agility.**
Algorand’s architecture allows multiple signature schemes to coexist.
That creates a path for cryptography itself to evolve as new standards and threats emerge.
Algorand’s roadmap goes further:
→ Falcon-1024
→ Falcon-512
→ hybrid accounts
→ post-quantum multisig
→ hardware & custody support
→ PQ-resilient VRFs
The goal is broader than protecting individual wallets.
And this matters for institutions too.
Future post-quantum multisig could combine:
Classical keys
+
Post-quantum keys
+
Hybrid configurations
That opens interesting possibilities for custody, treasuries and high-value accounts.
Algorand has already come a long way on the road to quantum resilience.
State Proofs. Falcon transactions. Native PQ accounts. Wallet support.
And the work continues, with remaining consensus components on the roadmap toward broad quantum resilience in 2027.
So zoom out.

And there’s an interesting parallel developing.
While
@Algorand prepares its cryptography for the quantum era, its ecosystem is also building for the AI-agent economy:
→ x402
→ AP2
→ AC2
→ Agentic payments
Two future problems.
One infrastructure layer.
Assets may remain onchain for decades.
Institutions may depend on this infrastructure for decades.
So cryptography needs a migration path before existing cryptography becomes vulnerable.
Algorand is building that path now.
Post-quantum security on Algorand is no longer just research or a roadmap item.
It’s now:
Protocol-level.
Mainnet.
Wallet-accessible.
The quantum computer doesn’t need to be here yet.
The infrastructure should be ready before it is.
@PeraAlgoWallet @AlgoFoundation
@LuteWallet @Algorand
You can now create and use native post-quantum accounts directly in
@PeraAlgoWallet and also in
@LuteWallet.
New accounts can be created with Falcon-1024 security, while existing accounts can also be rekeyed to a post-quantum account.
Try it today and take your first step into post-quantum on Algorand.
