For the fifth straight WNBA Finals game, on Monday, players from both the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries left the court before the national anthem and returned after it ended. That’s the only image most people will associate with the WNBA if they ever think about the league at all. The WNBA’s formal rule requiring players to line up for the national anthem was suspended years ago. That doesn’t change how this looks. Both teams clear the floor for the anthem during the championship series, then return the second it’s over. It reads as deliberate avoidance. Players have said it’s just their pregame routine. That doesn’t matter. It shows their priorities. It’s offensive to people who love America. Those people will never watch the WNBA. Insulting the country that pays your salary is bad business. Fans have endless options for their time and money. Plenty of people won’t spend either on a league whose Finals teams treat the anthem like an insult. Those same players and the league then complain about pay and attention. You don’t grow an audience by signaling that basic respect for the country is optional. And you don’t get paid more by shrinking your audience. The best response to this unpatriotic nonsense is simple. Call it out, then don’t buy the tickets, the jerseys, or the streaming package that funds the league. Instead, reward athletes and leagues that treat America as something worth standing for. The WNBA keeps choosing the wrong path. Let them fail. Their failure will remind other sports that showing respect for the country they rely on is mandatory, regardless of what league rules say.

Police cited her for failure to control speed. ⠀ Drivers say she had no active insurance, told one victim she needed to move because she was late for a meeting, and initially claimed the other cars were stopped. One injured driver reports roughly $10,000 in medical costs. ⠀ Wyatt’s insurance policy had reportedly lapsed in July. Since taking office in 2023 she has been arrested for DWI in December 2023 (dismissed after diversion) and for burglary of a vehicle in December 2025 (no-billed by a grand jury). ⠀ She faces a pending DWI charge from a May 2026 arrest in Galveston County where officers found her asleep in a vehicle on the highway. The anthem absences and the seating restriction happened in the same building on the same night. Players can leave the floor for the national anthem with no explanation, while a former NBA player with a clear view on women’s sports gets steered away from the seat he bought. The league has not disciplined the teams and has not explained why Freedom’s ticket was not honored. This is the pattern.
