I can't believe that we're actually debating whether or why Rust — a systems level language meant to rival C/C++!! — would be much faster than the interpreted or GC-using alternatives people have historically used for web apps. Programming tribalism is a hell of a drug!

They hate Go because Go is the only language since C that doesn't sell you anything Go doesn't have shiny sophisticated features that will make you feel good about yourself when you fail to ship a program that works Too readable, too explicit, too easy... how will that ever make these depressed people feel anything?
The hate on Go is stupid. Don’t use the language then my dude, this whole tweet is unnecessary lmao I’ve never really understood the tech space’s incredibly determined fixation on hating go

>be this dude >prompt AI to rewrite a program in 3 different languages >"wow Rust super duper fast" >don't read the code >don't verify >publish the benchmark >people read the code >it's actually 3 totally different implementations >get told you're retarded
I've had agents implement and optimize the Campfire web app in Elixir, Go, and Rust. Yes, Ruby is the slowest. I didn't care about that when the pay-off was huge in terms of productivity and developer joy. But if you're no longer reading the code? github.com/basecamp/once-cam…
Community note
The shown benchmarks use non-equivalent implementations: Elixir routes all DB queries through a single GenServer with Redis for jobs (retained from Rails), while Rust uses in-process queues, omits CSRF tags/fields, and applies other caching changes. github.com/basecamp/once-… raw.githubusercontent.com/basecamp/once-… github.com/basecamp/once-… github.com/basecamp/once-… x.com/zachsdaniel1/s…

LLMs don't have the mental capacity to write compilable Rust code that isn't considerably slower than a C counterpart
This is somewhat unbelievable. LLVM is not that bad as to be trivially able to beat it by 4x across the board by rewriting in assembly. Let alone 17x. Something is off here. I don't buy it. Compilers can be dumb. They are not that dumb in general.

facts the only real danger of AI is that there is currently no one to blame for when things go wrong
BIG BREAKING: Edward Snowden calls for the IMPRISONMENT of Sam Altman to establish liability for the damages caused by OpenAI's models, to a thunderous applause in a packed hall of 1000+ people at ETH Zurich. Let's stop this claptrap of safetyism and throw Altman in JAIL.

If we never have to look at the code, then all systems languages are practically the same, since they generate roughly the same machine code

because the goyim love low quality software with high quality marketing
How is it possible to get that level of open source support while many other projects like raylib struggle to get enough finance to even pay a developer minimal salary? I don't know... 😞
