I was in a sorority. Greek life has many benefits. It’s a social club you’re immediately included in, networking, GPA requirements and fun events. That being said, a lot of that revolves around alcohol. I, for one, needed a more structured environment. Which is why I went back to Cheer.
I would encourage your kids if they can play any sport at collegiate level to pursue that rather than Greek life. There’s drug tests, 5am workouts, good GPA. (Is there still drinking? Sure) but 5am conditioning isn’t fun when you’ve 2 four lokos and your coach is yelling at you. I needed to be pushed and going back to cheer was much more productive for me.
I do not understand how or why Greek life still exists on universities.
I do not understand how or why parents would allow their child to join -- not to mention pay extra for that experience.
Total debauchery disguised as "networking" and "community."
