Charlie will go down in history as the most inspirational American of our generation to patriots who were in search of higher purpose. It was the honor of my life to travel with him to colleges across the country, to sit shoulder-to-shoulder with him as we faced tough questions, and to watch him do it with a grounded calm & aplomb that only a rare few can muster. His assassination was a tragedy, and we owe it to our nation to always remember this lesson from his death: words are not violence, violence is violence, and violence is never an acceptable response to words.
