Thoughts about the future of UI that excite me: 1. Complex web interfaces are dead in the long term. They are solving human perception limitations that will no longer be relevant. No one will want to learn how to use complex UIs in the future. If this is your app's differentiator, move fast. 2. Personal agents will win over dedicated app agents. People are getting used to agentic experiences, so building a dedicated agent for your app may *seem* like a good idea, but this is just a "faster horses" solution. No one will browse to 4 different websites to use 4 different agents. They'll use their own single agent and won't care how your websites even look. 3. The new frontend will be UI snippets that will be returned from MCP servers to be rendered in your personal agent. The agent will control the experience, and will display only the specific visualization or interactivity piece that you need from every app. There are fascinating questions there around how the apps will keep their brand in this new world, but without clashing with the agent's own experience. I'm most excited to work on that part. 4. If you're reading this and thinking "there is no way I'm giving up on dashboards" - you're still thinking like a project manager and not like the US president. The president doesn't look at dashboards, he has helpers who look at them and extract only what he needs to know. All visualization is a way of answering questions and make sure you're not missing anything. Eventually it's either "this is going well" or "this requires attention". Once we'll establish trust with the agents capabilities, we'll rely on them like on personal assitants, they'll extract this data, act on it and will defer to us *only* when a human decision or attention is specifically needed. This will happen faster than we think. Try to use Jira's Claude integration for few days, and its "regular" web UI will start to seem unnecessary bloated. In few years the idea of navigating to dozens of websites to manually use dozens of different interfaces will seem very primitive. Personally I'm very bullish on this direction, and have been for the past months. I come from a long career in web development, so naturally there are mixed emotions for me seeing a decade of web UI development concepts evolving into something new. But I'm very excited about it, and very lucky to be at the forefront of it.

we removed a toggle from chatgpt! no, not that one. but, you no longer need to toggle developer mode to connect custom MCP servers! all users can now just go to plugins → add → create custom MCP server to connect MCP servers.

WebMCP and MCP Apps are two ends of the Agentic Web.... What happens when you combine them? 🤯 I partnered with @kaskulikowski from @Google's WebMCP team to explore... #WebMCPApps! Check it out: (Proposals are our own, not offical positions. We'd love to hear what you think!)
WebMCP gives agents tools from a website. MCP Apps brings UI into the agent for the human. So what happens when a WebMCP tool returns an MCP App? 🤔 @liadyosef, co-creator of MCP Apps, and I built an experiment to find out! 1/2 🧵

What an amazing milestone for MCP Apps ✨ Build native apps that run inside ChatGPT and Sites, using MCP Apps. And finally - auto app discovery inside conversations! Great work by @mxstbr and the team. MCP Apps are quickly becoming the foundation of the Agentic Web. 🚀
We are opening up our platform and you can now build full native apps with plugin extensions, and ship them right in ChatGPT. We have over 1.2B weekly users and will surface relevant plugins right in the conversations.

My talk from @aiDotEngineer SF is up! See how we're building the real Agentic Web. We spent two decades perfecting the web for humans - but older and younger generations already use assistants instead of Chrome. We nede to rethink everything: youtube.com/watch?v=waI44NP1…

Lucky to catch @liadyosef at #AGNTConf today! Funny thing happens when you're developing for agents and users. You develop a good experience for the agent who in turn creates and good experience for users

"Agents are the new browsers" #269
all of my imessages & email now run through a single agent interface. i still text, but i deleted every email client from my phone & canceled every email subscription or app i had. gmail is basically just a database to me now. increasingly so are the rest of google’s services. i.e. i never want to manually write an email, create a doc, build slides, organize a calendar, or manage files again. i just want to express intent & have the underlying systems of record updated correctly. i think now you’ll see apps disappear quickly. many will become databases at best or entirely obsolete at worst. the agent will be the default interface to your personal & professional life.

Agents are the new browsers. Which means the web is rapidly reinventing itself. I’ll be presenting The Future of The Agentic Web this Friday, at the annual @AgenticAIFdn conference. If you’re in Amsterdam this week for #AGNTCon + #MCPCon - let’s meet!

At this point forcing agents to mainly use websites feels like making airplanes drive everywhere

We're still not rethinking the web for agents. Most of the "Agentic Web" is still the existing web trying to stay relevant. At some point we should start with what agents need instead of retrofitting what we already built.

Anything users can do in your dashboard UI, agents should be able to do through your API or MCP.

An amazing opportunity to work with Max and help usher in AGI, in that order
AGI is nothing without its plugins AGI is happening. The models are getting smarter and smarter. We're seeing early signs of recursive self-improvement. Whatever your definition of AGI, it either has happened already or will happen shortly. But, to be maximally useful for people models need to be able to interact with the world. They need to be able to speak to the systems and data that people already use every day. OpenAI can’t build every connection to every system in the world. The people who know those systems best need to build them. That's why I'm at OpenAI working on plugins. Come join me? openai.com/careers/software-…

Almost overnight - being "agent ready" became the new race to stay relevant
i really don't want to use your agent, i want to use my agent to use your thing.
