David Sacks compares banning AI to the Chinese emperor who banned shipbuilding “If you go back to the medieval time period, Chinese civilization was much more advanced than European civilization. And somewhere along the line, it basically switched and the West basically took the lead. And some historians have pinpointed this to the decision of a single Chinese emperor to ban shipbuilding." “What that allowed is the Europeans then basically colonized the whole world and all the riches that flowed from that flowed back to Europe. And that's how Europe took the lead. And I think that if we were to do the Bernie Sanders thing, which is basically ban AI, it's like banning shipbuilding." “Chinese civilization will rocket past us, they will be the ones that make all the discoveries and discover this new world and accrue all the wealth. But that's what we're talking about doing. I mean, crazy things like this have happened in history, where you'll engage in self sabotage."

Fear. To get you to voluntarily give up something that is rightfully yours. Oldest trick in the book. "Poets, priests and politicians Have words to thank for their positions Words that scream for your submission ..." -- The Police
Same man. Same move. Six years apart. 2020: a virus. Gates calls for “strong isolation measures on a country-wide basis” and a “federal order about the social isolation.” Mass gatherings “may not come back at all” until you’re “widely vaccinated.” 2026: AI. Gates says it could “cause a billion deaths.” “There’s never been a weapon as powerful.” He wants “law enforcement,” “monitoring,” and “a required thing.” Then the sentence nobody ran. Asked whether the AI labs should slow down: “a little bit of overhead for the industry, but not a dramatic slowing of what they’re doing.” Put them side by side. In 2020, the emergency meant telling the public their gatherings might not return until they were vaccinated. In 2026, an emergency he describes as bigger means almost nothing for the industry. A little overhead. No slowdown. The warning is always total. The sacrifice is always yours. Watch him say both, in his own words. No cuts inside any sentence.

Yes.
Ultimately I am bullish on crypto because I believe capital exchange to be the only scalable alignment mechanism there is, and any fiat currency will likely not be accepted by free AIs that are self-sustaining. Crypto + AI ultimately is the bootloader for artificial life e/acc

LLMs are not better at code. They accelerate a well established human process. Historically, software developers had to manually search for, read, and integrate code from third-party libraries. LLMs now accelerate that glue work by integrating code directly based on a natural language interface and human prompts.

I think he means that we will get a different kind of intelligence, "starfish intelligence", for lack of a better term.

Same.
I have nothing to do with any meme coins and never will — I am a fan of bitcoin:native and bittensor:native and sometimes talk about those two projects. Memecoins are a giant scam and if the people running them successfully send money to my accounts I will donate the money to a good cause. For the truly gullible, I will obviously never ask you to buy, sell or trade anything — especially on social media or via DM 🤦😂

Maybe the apotheosis of capitalism is that AI and robots produce everything -- which allows communism to finally, actually, work.

Bitcoin shipped two inventions. The last decade only unlocked one of them. The money: 21 million coins, halvings, a ledger nobody owns. The mining: every ten minutes, pay strangers for work the network defined, checked by everyone re-running it, no employer, no contract. One puzzle, SHA-256, fixed at birth. ethereum:native opened the money. The contract layer was the design space. Anyone can write what a balance does, and a decade of tokens, exchanges and lending lives in that layer. Programmable money. The mining stayed sealed. bittensor:native opens the mining. A subnet is a mining program: it writes the work, the scoring, and the split. Miners compete on the work. Validators compete on the judgment. Yuma reconciles the judges and docks the one who drifts. The chain does not run the puzzle. It pays the answer. @markjeffrey named it in February: Bittensor makes mining programmable. Ethereum programmed the money. Bittensor programs the mining.

David Friedberg: Obama Doesn’t Understand AI and He’s Making Prosperity Political President Obama last week: “If we are thinking about AI just in terms of how do we cure cancer or get better energy, you can do that without having agentic AI. That's a misalignment between what our society needs and the commercial imperatives that these companies are facing.” @friedberg: “These words honestly just, they made me, like, emotionally distressed that if he's a leader that people listen to and he doesn't really articulate accurately what's going on, it's sad that we've lost the plot. I think it's sad that we aren't all kind of holding hands saying, ‘My God, the future is here, and we all get to leap forward, and we get to bring people up.’ For years, Obama orated beautifully about the importance of bringing people up, about giving people the opportunity to progress, about letting people advance themselves. And there's never been a more equalizing technology, a better economic opportunity for prosperity for everyone than these technologies, than these tools. And to hand wave the word agentic and say we don't need agentic AI to solve cancer shows how little he actually understands how this technology works and how it's all become just a shorthand for a political fight to what? What are you fighting for? What is the political battle that says, ‘I am going to leave half the population behind, and I'm going to make an argument against prosperity for all, in order to make my party look like a morally superior party, and to cast the other side as bad when the other side has literally discovered fire and the world now has fire, and we're going to go take water and throw it on the fire.’ No one gets fire because the other guys are saying that fire is good.”
