I can’t imagine what a college sports fan is going through with all this chaos. I know how challenging it is to be a coach and a player. Everyone knows my stance on the bipartisan PCSA bill in Congress. It’s not perfect, and there are things I don’t like about it, but it’s desperately needed to protect young American athletes and will solve the problems that now threaten the future of college sports.
We’re all tired of eligibility lawsuits in different states, different rules and different outcomes. The PCSA will solve that problem once and for all.
Under the PCSA, eligibility disputes would be adjudicated in federal court – not a hometown state court – and we would get protections and fairness for American 17, 18, 19 year old kids and double the amount of direct rev share payments from schools, which includes retention money.
One national standard. No thumb on the scale. Players First!

A hilariously bad take from someone who has apparently never been on a college campus outside of the Deep South? Proud @UWBadgers grad here…tell those hippies in Madison they don’t support the football team! 🤣
Or Michigan, or Oregon, or Washington or Iowa or Minnesota or Texas or Boulder, etc, etc, etc.
Theory: The more progressive a college’s student body is, the less interested its students are in supporting its college football program (unless you’re at a school like Maine, where hockey is the main sports).

Professional athletes don’t belong in college sports. 26 and 27 year old quarterbacks don’t belong in college sports. We can stop this and should.

Statement on the Protect College Sports Act from NCAA President Charlie Baker:
"After speaking with conference leaders and university presidents in recent days, one thing is clear: there is overwhelming consensus that targeted intervention from Congress is necessary. I am grateful to Senators Cruz and Cantwell for making meaningful changes to strengthen this bill.
This is the legislation we need now. It will grant student-athletes unprecedented academic, health, and wellness benefits, rein in out-of-control agents, and stabilize transfer, eligibility, and revenue-sharing rules.
While no bill is perfect, I implore college sports leaders and Senators to support this bill now. It is our best chance to deliver the benefits and level playing field student-athletes deserve while providing the protections institutions need to sustain college athletics long-term."

A rule that saves a lot of pain: When emotions are high, speed should be low. You don’t have to answer the email immediately. You don’t have to respond to that slight. You don’t have to make that decision. You don’t have to do anything. Slow down. Create space to think clearly.

If only club volleyball were cheaper we could compete on the global stage. Or ice hockey. Or baseball. Or lacrosse. This is youth sports in the United States (and it's bad for all sorts of reasons that aren't competitive!). But only in soccer do we point to it as the reason we can't compete (on the men's side).
"The youth system is broken" except virtually none of the guys on the men's team went thru the system that is being talked about, and nearly every member of the USWNT did. Rec to ECNL/GA to college/pro. Girls and women paving their way just fine. I've been a pay-to-play participant (daughter...ECNL to college). It's brutal and no DOUBT shuts way too many out. That sucks and is too true for so much of what happens to American youth (sports or not). But give me a break with it being the reason our men folded (again). Knock-out tournaments are hard. Narratives and momentum matter. I don't have the answers, but the "system" ain't it.

A quick blast from the past. An entire industry in the US was laughing at the pre-tournament hysterics. Sure, it ain’t community football or supporter section pricing. But multi-billion dollar venues are packed and FUN. Soak it up!
The (mostly) British media who have been incredulous about World Cup ticket prices and the legal secondary market in the U.S. may be forced to admit that it works (I know, I know). FIFA looks to have made some really smart choices. Sell for what the market will bare. Get the tech-enabled "ticket touts" on the hook for everything you can. And a rational market will sort it out. Stadiums will be full in the end. Everyone relax.
