🚨BREAKING: A Republican candidate accused of r*ping two 13-year-old girls is on track to become the next police chief of a Louisiana town, because his only opponent just dropped out of the race.
Chris Paul, who is running for police chief in the Village of Elizabeth, was arrested earlier this month on two counts of second-degree r*pe, according to KPLC. He is accused of r*ping two 13-year-old girls between 2005 and 2006. Paul is out on bond and has not been convicted of anything.
His opponent, Zachary LaCaze, says he was told to choose between his campaign and his civilian security job at Fort Polk, and he chose the paycheck that supports his wife and son. That leaves Paul with a possible automatic victory.
The Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office confirmed that Paul is eligible to hold office unless he is convicted of a felony. That means a man facing child r*pe charges could legally be handed a badge and a gun while his case is still pending. LaCaze’s name will stay on the ballot, but signs will tell voters the race has been canceled.
Paul declined to comment and says he plans to stay in the race.
