All politics is local.
It was only one-year ago this week that I learned about an upcoming solar hearing in Fort Edward, New York, which is the next town over from mine along the Hudson River.
At the time, I had learned about the solar poaching that was going on in the Town of Saratoga, with farmers near my land telling me they had been approached 5+ times to lease their actively farmed land... and solar salesmen going as far to find their personal residence and knock on the door until someone answered.
I knew nothing about the Office of Renewable Energy Siting or the scale of the project sizes that were being forced on rural Upstate New York towns.
I took this photo of the Fort Edward valley, which I would soon come to learn is one of the last grasslands of its kind throughout the entire Northeast. It's home to a significant amount of state-endangered and threatened birds.
I had no idea what awaited me at the ORES Fort Edward Solar hearing. I hadn't planned to speak, either.
But by the end of the night, after realizing that not one comment shared by the residents of Fort Edward would matter or impact this project whatsoever, I stood up to speak.
I warned the room of the bureaucratic communism that was about to ensue, that we were merely serfs before the king that day. I asked the landowners in the room to think about the generations after them. I asked them to think about the 30-year-olds who will be priced out of buying farmland when it's all forcibly locked up into wind and solar leases. I shared what I had learned about conservation easements, and I called on the people in that room to fight this.
I had no idea I'd go on to learn about the other 49 ORES projects and meet some of the most incredible and courageous New Yorkers fighting for their agrarian Upstate New York towns, too.
ORES went on to give Fort Edward its final permit despite the widespread and catastrophic ecological damage it will cause on New York, neighboring states, and even Canada (it's a critical migratory hub). This was predictable.
What wasn't predictable to New York State is that I formed a nonprofit that has sued the state three times, helped fund a fourth lawsuit against the state, and funded an independent environmental assessment on Fort Edward in just one-year.
There's more lawsuits where that came from. I am all in, and I'm never going to look back.
Thank you to everyone who has supported American Land Rescue Fund. More lawsuits to come. We couldn't do it without you.

The Left Gets Nothing. And that includes your apathy.
Over the past few days I have heard a number of very sober, well-reasoned commentators on the political right talking about the midterms and related polling.
They uniformly speak about the House already being a lost cause for the GOP, and they focus on whether the GOP can hold the Senate.
Things do not need to be this way. Trump won in 2024 by large margins. The only reason that cannot be repeated this fall is if YOU—the average Trump voter—decides to let it happen.
I know, I know, I know. Trump has not made all of your hopes and dreams come true in two years’ time. You think he has done nothing, even though he has had profound victory after profound victory in areas like immigration and downsizing the federal government. You have your pet issue that has not been satisfied to the extent you demand, so you want to “Stay home and send them a message.”
Yes the GOP sucks. It’s a heinous mess of self-interest and failed status quo maintenance.
But the only thing worse is the Democrat Party.
We are running against LITERAL COMMUNISTS who want to abolish the Senate, pack the Supreme Court, add two new deep blue states, open the borders to unlimited immigration and succumb to creeping Sharia and jihad in order to literally destroy the nation. (Plus, they will spend the next two years impeaching Trump and everyone in his orbit, fully defeating what you voted for in 2024.)
So you have two choices. It’s a binary choice, there is no third option:
1. Vote for doing everything we can to pursue MAGA even if that’s not perfect.
2. Stay home and become ruled by literal Communists who want you dead.
Choose.
We can still win this fall, we just need the will to do it.

Continued voting for Democrats won't just ruin the environment, it won't just wipe out endangered species, it will kill you as well. In the cold depths of winter the solar and wind will fail and you will freeze to death.
After 10-months, the @NYSDEC decided to partially answer a FOIL I submitted November 2025 about the unredacted environmental surveys at Fort Edward Solar.
They only answered it because my attorney sent them an appeal letter two-weeks ago.
To no one's surprise, they uploaded more redacted documents.
They hide behind the Environmental Conservation Law (ECL), which has a very narrow purpose: conceal GPS coordinates of actual nesting sites for endangered animals. That's it (we are already suing over ORES' misuse of the ECL).
The DEC has allowed solar developers to redact general endangered species information, observations, data, and presence at Fort Edward Solar.
Why?
The public and scientists (we hired an environmental assessment through American Land Rescue Fund) are not able to fully grasp the impending ecological devastation if they cannot read the descriptions, study results, and data obtained by the solar developers.
By covering up the ecological importance of Fort Edward, it prevents people from mobilizing a unified media/PR attack in response.
And that's all on purpose. In fact, one of our FOILs uncovered ORES is actually encouraging the developers to apply sweeping redactions. New York State WANTS this information redacted. And it's coming right from the top, trickling down out of the governor's office.
These photos should have you enraged. Our state's endangered species, designated habitats, ecological (and historical) excellence, and water sources are for-sale to foreign corporations that make hundreds of millions of dollars through New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
Everyone complicit in this must be held accountable.

Ok, we now have the actual text of the Greenland deal (whitehouse.gov/briefings-sta…), so we can say how it compares to the existing 1951 arrangement and who, between Trump and Denmark, lied the most in their framing of it.
Long story short - which may surprise some - the Danes lied the most: Trump is pretty much correct in saying that this new deal grants the US control of Greenland.
Let's look into what changed compared to the 1951 deal.
1) This is now a permanent arrangement: whereas the existing 1951 deal only lasted as long as NATO existed, this one "does not have an end date and may only be amended by mutual consent."
It even survives a hypothetical future independence of Greenland: in that event, Denmark and Greenland must ensure that the independent Greenlandic state "affirmatively assume[s] all of the rights and obligations of the Kingdom of Denmark specified in this Agreement."
2) In the 1951 agreement, the US could set up bases only where both governments agreed, and only on the basis of NATO planning. The new deal locks in three bases: the US can "modernize and expand its activities" at Pituffik, its only base in Greenland until now, and "shall be allowed to establish an additional Defense Area at Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig." Further bases beyond these 3 can be justified by the defense of "the American continent," a US interest rather than a NATO one.
Also, quite subtle but this is interesting: Article IV(iii) says that "the United States may establish additional defense areas in Greenland" and that consultations are then held "to decide implementation details based on mutual agreement." What this means is that the principle of a new base is automatically granted and only the implementation details require agreement.
Article VII also gives the US "the right to raise concerns regarding construction, or change of use" of any building near a US base, after which the parties decide together what to do. Which means that the US has a say over civilian planning around its bases.
3) On US military movement across Greenland, the wording change between the 1951 agreement and this new one is quite funny.
The 1951 text said (Art. V(3)): the US "may enjoy... the right of free access to and movement between the defense areas through Greenland, including territorial waters, by land, air and sea," but only "in accordance with general rules mutually agreed upon and issued by the appropriate Danish authority in Greenland."
The new one says: "the United States of America shall enjoy... the right of free access to and movement between the Defense Areas through Greenland, including the Territorial Waters, by land, air and sea."
That's it: "May" becomes "shall," and the US military movement no longer has to follow rules "issued by the appropriate Danish authority in Greenland." The US also gets something new on top: "undersea access to and movement within the Territorial Waters," i.e. submarines.
4) Non-NATO exclusion: non-NATO states are barred from military installations or a persistent presence in Greenland unless all three parties approve, giving the US an effective permanent veto. The 1951 deal had no equivalent clause.
5) Investment screening: this is entirely new. "States or investors from a state that is not a member of NATO, a NATO partner, or an EU member state" (i.e. Russia, China, India, the Gulf States, etc.), "shall not be allowed to have (i) control, (ii) significant influence, or (iii) access to non-public information...within Particularly Sensitive Sectors or Activities in the territory of Greenland (including the Territorial Waters), unless agreed between the Parties."
Again, it basically means that the US has a permanent veto over who can invest in strategic sectors in Greenland, as far as non-NATO or EU states are concerned.
6) Lastly, in stark contrast with the 1951 deal, the framing of the deal changes significantly: this new deal is largely framed around the US.
The 1951 agreement existed only "for the benefit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization." The new one lists the defense of "the American continent" as an objective, celebrates "the irreplaceable role" of the United States military as well as "the United States' indispensable historical and ongoing contributions to the security and defense of Greenland," and names the establishment of Trump's "Golden Dome" missile defense system as a key goal.
So, to sum up:
- The US secured a permanent military foothold that even an independent Greenland would inherit whether it likes it or not
- The US now has veto power over any non-NATO military presence in Greenland, and over who can invest in its strategic infrastructure and resources (beyond NATO and the EU)
- Denmark signed away its say over the principle of new US bases, with only the right to discuss the "implementation details"
- Danish authorities no longer set the rules for US military movement across the island
- And all of it is now justified by the defense of "the American continent"
I don't know in which universe this even remotely "recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom and the Greenlandic people's right to self-determination," as Danish PM Mette Frederiksen put it (stm.dk/en/press/press-releas…).
Yes, the preamble of the text cynically "reaffirms" Danish sovereignty but, in my book, when you let a foreign country put bases on your soil, move its troops without following your rules and veto who else can come in, in perpetuity, after it spent two years threatening to take you by force, the word for that is anything but "recognized sovereignty" 🤷
Looks like what happened was:
Trump: "We're going to buy Greenland!"
Denmark: "Absolutely not, Greenland is not for sale! But you can have it for free"
(I'm aware that Denmark is saying they kept "sovereignty" over it, but not sure what that word means when another country has permanent veto power over who can invest on your territory and occupies the place militarily)

If Flat Creek Solar had been built, the money committed to Pattern Energy (the current solar developer) from New York State would have gone to:
- The Canadian Pension Plan Fund
- ABP, the largest Dutch pension fund
- Australian Retirement Trust
Pattern Energy wasn't the company that shopped Flat Creek Solar to the landowners in Canajoharie, New York. But by April 1, 2026, the solar permit transferred into their hands, ensuring the over $500 million dollars that @NYSERDA would have paid out in the form of renewable energy certificates (RECs) made its way to Canada, The Netherlands, and Australia.
The NYSERDA revenue makes companies like Pattern more valuable to their pension investors. A long-term contracted revenue stream, straight from Albany, New York, reduces revenue uncertainty for a project.
And where does NYSERDA get the billions of dollars its promising to foreign solar and wind developers? Well, Albany has to get that money from somewhere. They get it from us, through taxes and our electric bills (delivery charge and SBC charge, among others).
The money you work hard to earn is being laundered through NYS taxes and electric bills to foreign countries in one of the biggest scams ever peddled on the New York public.
Obviously, New York State didn't want this solar permit to be relinquished. A lot of people lost a lot of money last week.
There are cracks in their money laundering foundation. Keep the pressure on.
