Thomas Massie just opened up about his plans for 2027. “I have 10 ideas in my head … ” “Rather than running for another office, I might take my own advice and set up some kind of organization that tries to get the clowns in DC to do the right thing.” “I like inventing.” “I like farming.” “I don’t know what I’m going to do next.” “I want to invent a bunch of tools for small farmers that makes it easier to farm and easier to do regenerative farming.” “I’ve already built a self-propelled chicken tractor, like a Roomba with chickens in it.” “It’s been running on my farm for several years while I go to DC.” “It runs on capacitors, so I call it the clucks capacitor.” “We just started seven piglets.” “We’re going to try to do pasture-raised pigs on acorns in the hills of Kentucky in addition to our beef.” @RepThomasMassie @chelliepingree

One thing I find so unconscionably awful is the normie idea of a "break-up." I can't imagine spending years loving a person and then saying "yeah, just pretend I never existed." If suicide is murdering the future, then a break-up is killing your past. It's a totally inhuman act.

Just as pornography can stimulate the human sex drive without providing any actual sex, and democracy can stimulate the human power drive without providing any actual power, so AI can stimulate the thirst for intelligence without providing any understanding of God.

In film studies, our prof once went on a rant abt how we have to "de-americanize" our view of art. iirc "Americans are obsessed with plot. Form, function, feeling, they ignore it all to ask if the plot is believable or logical. All they care about is outsmarting the artist."

I do believe that non-technical people are now vibe-coding their own software. What I will want to see is if they vibe-maintain it. Software maintenance has always been the hard part after the dopamine rush of creating something new wears off

I think people hate this poem for the wrong reasons. Sure, it's not beautiful. Sure it tries a little too hard to be a riddle solvable only by those who are, self-assuredly, very smart. But the real problem with this poem is that it is a turd nugget of nihilism.
A poem by Anne Carson, who was awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature. Read it in full: newyorker.com/magazine/2001/…

Solving and visualizing facility location optimization problems in an interactive web app. I've added support in spopt-r for spider (desire) lines to the package's location-allocation solvers, helping you communicate and evaluate different facility scenarios. Spider lines can be straight or can even follow the road network with r5r. This demo uses the new shinyreact framework for Shiny to visualize optimization solutions in real time.

While I am not a QGIS user, I know many of you in my network are - so here comes a new plugin by @Nika - 𝐐𝐆𝐈𝐒𝟐𝐖𝐞𝐛𝐌𝐚𝐩. This tool turns a finished QGIS project into a single interactive HTML file you can simply share w anyone. The recipient just double-clicks it to pan, zoom, toggle layers, open popups and even explore 3D terrain and extruded buildings - no QGIS, no login, no web server. Your styling travels with it too. Thanks to @Lawrence Xiao for bringing this to my attention! 𝐏𝐥𝐮𝐠𝐢𝐧: Whi lnkd.in/dwQHj3V3 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐬 & 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐩𝐬: lnkd.in/dCQJNeDh 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐩𝐬 - thenewscienceofmaps.com/
