🚀 Kinéis is preparing the future of maritime and aeronautical surveillance! Following a call for projects by the @esa, we are proud to announce that Thomas Hiriart, General manager at Kinéis has signed, alongside Laurent Jaffart, in Madrid the contract to lead ALCYON. This study on future satellite-based maritime (AIS / VDES) and aeronautical (ADS-B) surveillance services, is part part of IRIS² Low-LEO Pre-operational and De-risking Activities, within ESA's Programme Related to EU Secure Connectivity. The project's name was not chosen at random. This bird, capable of building its nest on the sea, was also regarded in Greek mythology as a sign of good fortune. A fitting symbol for this first demonstration phase, which embodies Kinéis' ambition to deliver reliable and innovative solutions for surveillance of the sky and the seas. This project reflects Kinéis' commitment to anticipating the needs of tomorrow and expanding its service portfolio over time, while continuing to improve the quality of its solutions for the benefit of its customers. We’re proud to announce Spire has been awarded a two-year, $33.2 million contract by @NOAA to provide global navigation satellite system radio occultation (GNSS-RO) data, including RO profiles with Temporal Resolution Enhancements. The award was made under Task Order 1 of NOAA’s Space-Based Environmental Monitoring Multiple-Award IDIQ contract, which has a shared $8 billion ceiling. Beyond this, Spire was selected under the IDIQ and is eligible for future task orders to provide GNSS reflectometry, hyperspectral microwave sounding, and thermospheric neutral density data. 🚅🛰️ Eutelsat has successfully completed its first rail connectivity trial in Poland, testing our OneWeb LEO network aboard a PKP Intercity service. Conducted in partnership with ACO Solutions, @Hispasat and @PKPIntercityPDP using a @KymetaCorp Kestrel u5 terminal, the trial demonstrated how satellite and terrestrial networks can work together to support both passenger connectivity and increasingly digital rail operations. As rail operators look to improve passenger experience, operational efficiency and communications capabilities across their networks, resilient low Earth orbit connectivity is becoming an increasingly important part of the solution. China's active Yaogan-50 02 satellite experiences a debris event on around 20 July 2026, but appears to still be maneuver capable. 43 pieces of debris cataloged to date. Although high altitude, the debris appear to have a high area to mass and thus much shorter lifetimes than originally anticipated. Details in my substack post (link in thread)
