Notice how every solution somehow means the worker has to sacrifice more.
Lower your standards. Share a bedroom. Give up your weekends. Work overtime. Stay broke a little longer.
But somehow the idea that a full time job should actually pay enough to live on never makes the list.

My daughter works full time here in Florida.
Let me run her numbers.
State minimum wage is $14/hour. She’s making $15.
40 hours a week = $600/week
That’s about $2,600/month before taxes.
Florida has no state income tax, the thing they love to sell you on.
After federal and FICA, she takes home roughly $2,200.
Average one-bedroom in our area? About $1,600.
That’s 73% of her entire paycheck gone to rent before she eats a single meal.
That leaves her around $600 a month for:
groceries
gas
car insurance
health insurance
phone
emergencies
savings
Car insurance alone eats a huge chunk of that in this state.
She works 40 hours a week and still can’t save a dollar.
Not because she’s careless.
Because there’s nothing left to save.
I spent thirty years paying off a house here.
She’s doing the same thing I did at her age, working full time, and she can’t even afford a one-bedroom apartment.
That’s not a discipline problem.
That’s not avocado toast.
The floor moved and nobody lowered the ceiling.
Working full time should be enough to afford a roof over your head.
In Florida, it barely covers the rent on one.

Isn't it curious how Oreos are locked in security cases because these supposedly hungry people always steal overpriced cookies, but not the unsecured bananas in the same store that are 50 cents per pound? It's almost like theft is motivated by want and not need or something.

The "iced coffee to an interview" thing is such a good case study in Gen Z not being able to pick their battles
Everything has to be some dramatic example of oppression or ableism or "corporate overlords" instead of...just the way things are
You don't wear white to someone else's wedding, you leave a tip when it's customary to do so, these are just social conventions that make you not look rude
An iced coffee doesn't matter that much to you as the interviewee. You will survive going 1 hour without an Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso
But it COULD matter to the person interviewing you. Why risk it? Why die on that hill?
You may think it's a poor proxy for professionalism, you may think a good employer wouldn't care
But if someone tells you "Hey, this is not universally acceptable, it could risk your success," and you insist on doing it to make a point, that's your own dang fault
