Six months ago the community told us Hot Reloading was a major pain point. A better Fast Refresh mode is on it's way into React Native. It's resilient to errors (no need for full reloads after a typo) and supports function components with Hooks. Check it out:

In order to not cause inconvenience to other contributors, I created a (very hacky) semi-automated script to fix the conflicts caused by this commit on existing PRs and I ran it against all the opened PRs that had been updated in the last 6 months.
Thanks for the suggestion! While rewriting the history may work in some situations, this was done on a big opensource project with almost 8 years of git history, >36K commits and thousands of forks. In this scenario, rewriting would have caused high disruption to the contributors

using a monorepo solves many code management problems, and in turn it does introduce some of its own.
but ime, the problems caused by a monorepo can be tackled by a single centralized team, whereas the downsides of many repos end up slowing everyone on a team down slightly

If the npm registry disappeared. How quickly could it be rebuilt? (Without the cooperation of npm inc). Is anyone still mirroring the registry? The migration away from couchdb and the registry software being closed source would make it difficult.

BTW, I just realized I haven't announced it here 😅 I recently left @fb_engineering so I'm no longer gonna be maintaining @MetroBundler . I'll keep watching its progress on GitHub though (and hopefully I'll have some time to still do some contributions 😇)

I got VSCode Extensions working in the browser! The extensions completely run in the browser, using web workers instead of node processes.
I'm now running 74 extensions, including:
- CSS/HTML/TS Language Services
- Emmet
- VIM Mode
- Bracket Colorizer
So many new possibilities!
