Would you pay OVER $2,000 for ONE night at a hotel? 😅
I travelled to the outskirts of Nyungwe National Park to interview Rosette Rugamba (@rcrugamba), Founder of Songa Africa (@SongaAfrica) and owner of the recently opened 5-Star Icyayi Songa Lodge for The Long Form Podcast, and decided to document my 24-hour stay.
The food, the views, the tea tasting. Come with me and see what $2,000 a night looks like in Rwanda! 🇷🇼

“If my finances say it’s one cottage, it’s going to be that one cottage. But it’s not going to stop my dream from happening.” — Rosette Rugamba (@rcrugamba ) Founder of Songa Africa (@SongaAfrica )
From starting Amakoro with just two cottages to building a successful lodge, Rosette Rugamba shares why you don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin. It’s about starting with what you have, learning from your mistakes, and having the courage to keep going.

What would make you walk away from a successful career to take a chance on an industry you knew almost nothing about?
In 2003, Rosette Rugamba (@rcrugamba) left British Airways to lead Rwanda’s tourism sector at a time when its future was far from certain.
She went on to help transform Rwanda’s tourism industry, introduce Kwita Izina, and build her own company, Songa Africa (@SongaAfrica).
On this week’s episode of The Long Form Podcast, we explore her remarkable journey, the risks she took, and the vision that helped put Rwanda on the global tourism map.
And we ask: What did she see in Rwanda’s tourism industry in 2003 that the rest of the world couldn’t see?

🚨 NEW EPISODE MONDAY 🚨
What would make you leave a successful career to take a job in an industry you knew almost nothing about? 🇷🇼
In 2003, Rosette Rugamba (@rcrugamba) left British Airways to lead Rwanda's tourism sector. Success was far from guaranteed. She would go on to help transform the tourism industry, introduce Kwita Izina, and later start her own company, Songa Africa (@SongaAfrica).
Today she's still making big bets on Rwanda.
This Monday on The Long Form Podcast, we discuss the extraordinary journey of one of the women who helped put Rwanda on the global tourism map.
And I ask her a question I've always wondered about: "What did she see in Rwanda's tourism industry in 2003 that the rest of the world couldn't see?"

Beautifully CAPTURED! This is 🇷🇼Rwanda at its finest—peaceful, authentic, and beautifully connected to the land of a 1000 Hills. Tea fields, warm hospitality, and a quiet moment by the fire. Simply unforgettable @SongaAfrica@AmakoroSLK#VisitRwanda#IcyayiSongaLodge#SongaAfrica
At Icyayi this morning @SongaAfrica lodge
Breakfast overlooking the tea fields, then perhaps a quiet moment around the fire later.
This is exactly what we wanted Icyayi to feel like like connected to the landscape, relaxed and distinctly Rwandan.@visitrwanda_now@AmakoroSLK
