If you’ve played competitive sports, you already know what Joey McGuire is saying. If you haven’t, this is the part that usually gets missed.
We are 5-0. Undefeated. That’s the result. It doesn’t matter if it was pretty, if it was a blowout, or if the offense looked the way we wanted. The game was won.
A lot of us still grade Texas Tech by the Leach-era standard—points in bunches, style points, highlight drives. That era was fun. It also didn’t produce this. This roster isn’t last year’s. It’s returning pieces plus new blood, and the offense still isn’t explosive enough. You can criticize the play-calling. That’s fair. The red zone and the big plays still need work.
But once the ball is snapped, the game plan is only a starting point. The team has to adapt and find a way to win. This group has done that five times. That’s what competitive sports actually rewards.
It won’t get easier. It doesn’t have to look perfect. Back the team that keeps finding a way, and keep the standard where it belongs: win the game in front of you.
Wreck ’em. Remember where you came from, you bleed Scarlet and Black, don't forget that.
